A 21-year-old Parrish woman is dead after an early morning single-vehicle crash.

F-H-P says 21-year-old Ashleigh Bond was driving on Cortez road near 44th avenue in Bradenton, when she crashed her Toyota Camry into a utility pole.

No one else was involved in the crash. It’s unknown at this time if alcohol played a factor.

A crossing guard was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a teen driver early Wednesday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said it happened just after 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of Socrum Loop Road and Marcum Road.

The sheriff's office says shots were fired in the area of Ulmerton Road and Seminole Boulevard, and someone called from the 2200 block of Blanchard Court around 8:15 to report it.

Several emergency responders, including a SWAT truck, are there. Traffic was slow but moving on Ulmerton and Seminole.

The next time a ride-sharing service picks you up, your Uber or Lyft driver could be facing criminal charges.

Inspectors are now handing out misdemeanor citations in an effort to crackdown on the companies they say are operating illegally in the Bay area.

Some drivers say it's worth the risk.

A Hillsborough County teacher was recently arrested for drunk driving after being pulled over for driving the wrong way on I-275.

Police in Jefferson Parish charged Destrehan High School English teachers Shelley S. Dufresne, 32, and Rachel Respess, 24, with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Police say the student, who was 16 at the time, went to one of the teacher's apartments after a football game on Sept. 12. The police report says the student then began having sex with both teachers simultaneously until the early morning hours of Sept. 13.

A Hillsborough County jury will hear a high-profile DUI manslaughter case in South Florida involving multi-millionaire and polo magnate John Goodman. This will be his second trial.

On July 1, 2014, changes to the Florida ‘Move Over Law’ went into effect to include more at-risk Failure to Move over Ticket in Florida workers in need of protection on Florida roads. 

The Move Over Law made it mandatory for drivers to either move over a lane or drastically slow down when some types of emergency or utility vehicles were on the side of the road.

Two researchers are developing a laser that would detect the presence of alcohol vapors in a moving car.  The idea behind the prototype would be that it scans cars as they are driving down a highway. 

If the device picks up the presence of alcohol in the car, it will alert an officer parked further down the road so that they may stop the car and investigate further.
