Everyone's read about this by now, but Twitter steps up to the Legal plate...
I think my favorite bit is that they actually quoted Chris Soghoian saying it was the legal version of Twitter telling the government "Come at me, bro!".
Kept getting distracted from sending this out earlier, but a very interesting situation brewing w/ Twitter and user privacy. Essentially a guy who was arrested in one of the massive Occupy:Wallstreet busts (the OG one -- actually in NYC) tried to squash a government request for user info from Twitter. His request was kicked out due to lack of legal standing to challenge the req on his own behalf.
Twitter stepped in, citing 1st amendment rights as well as the Twitter ToS that essentially states that "tweets" are speech/IP owned by individual users, so in many respects -- they don't legally have the right to hand the info over on behalf of their users.
Even more interesting? .. this isn't their in-house lawyers stepping up to the plate for Twitter. They've dug up outside firms specifically picked for their track record on privacy cases that seemed to fit the best. Aka, it's less like "come at me bro"and more like Jack Dorsey and Twitter just told the government: "Bling, Bling.. money ain't a thang!"http://allthingsd.com/20120508/tweet-free-or-die-in-defense-of-occupy-protester-twitter-fights-the-man/
