Human settlement of Mars in 2023

Mars One will establish the first human settlement on Mars in 2023. A habitable settlement will be waiting for the settlers when they land. The settlement will support them while they live and work on Mars the rest of their lives. Every two years after 2023 an additional crew will arrive, such that there is a real living, growing community on Mars. Mars One has created a technical plan for this mission that is as simple as possible. For every component of the mission we have identified at least one potential supplier. Mars One invites you to join us in this next giant leap for mankind!

P.S.: Make sure to fully read the F.A.Q section.

If you're social, you're an attention seeker.
If you're not social, you're an autistic douche.
If you're happy, you're a dumb gullible hippy.
If you're sad, you're an annoying emo twat.
If you're nice, you're a hypocrite.
If you're not nice, you're a mean dick.

People will always find something. How about being yourself?

Memorial Day 2012

I gave a speech about being an American to a group of Europeans who came to my house in The Hague for President Obama's Inauguration in 2009. (The full essay is on my "About" page.) It expresses my family's contributions to our nation's military. The people in the room as I gave this speech were from France, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain and the U.S.

I Am an American

January 20, 2009

"My Irish Grandfather was not allowed to learn to read. He worked in the coal mines in England at eight-years-old and as a teen went to America with hope. He eventually bought a part of what was then a slum called Georgetown. He became a millionaire.

His life was change you donʼt have to believe in, it was change as solid as a Georgetown brick.

My Great Grandparents came to America from Germany with hope; and the German people who came with them gave my Grandfather their money to hold, which eventually led to the bank you can see on this U.S. bill.

Their lives were change you donʼt have to believe in––you could take it to the bank!

Their son, my Great Uncle, returned to Germany after World War II as a full Colonel in the U.S. Army to participate in the Nuremburg trials which eventually led to the International Court of Justice. This is change certainly we in this room in the Hague donʼt have to believe in! We can see it at the Peace Palace and the International Court of Justice!

My Fatherʼs Father fought in the trenches in France in World War I with the hope that there would never have to be another war––ever. It was to be the war to end all wars. His hopes were not realized, but what high hopes! His Grandson, also a Colonel, but in the Marines, was the first American officer shot in the first Iraq war (thankfully, he did not die).

I am an American, which makes me a daughter of Irish and German hopes, hopes for prosperity, universal education and international justice. My familyʼs blood is sprinkled in the dust from France to the Middle East which makes me the sister of the worldʼs greatest dreams for peace.

Today is change we do not have to believe in. We can see it in front of our eyes as solidly real as the Lincoln Memorialʼs marble steps. May President Barack Obama help America continue to make the worldʼs highest hopes and dreams come true."

This is not a day for politics, but it is a day for remembrance. And I hope, so much, that all our dreams for our country fulfill the awful price that so many have had to pay to make America, the beautiful, beautiful.
