Thanks to the Apps Script Community Moderators

Although we still have many more months before consumer Google+ is shut down, I wanted to take the time now to thank the moderators of this community for all they have done over the years.

Back when G+ launched the communities feature, we on the Developer Relations team were eager to start one up for Apps Script. We were held back for a couple of weeks while internal policies were flushed out, and in the mean time some top Apps Script advocates jumped in and did it on their own. It turned out to be a blessing in the end, as their credibility and dedication helped foster one of the strongest Google developer communities I've seen.

Thank you moderators:
+Ivan Kutil
+Bruce Mcpherson
+Romain Vialard
+Spencer Easton
+Martin Hawksey
+Riël Notermans

And additional thanks for all the other top contributors to the community, who provide the answers and guidance that have made this a destination for folks looking to learn and use Apps Script. If you know of someone that has been a major help to you in this community, give them a shout out in a comment below.

TU16: Data Studio Community Connectors

In this episode of Totally Unscripted we are joined by +Ben Collins who will be talking about Data Studio Community Connectors. Data Studio Community Connectors enable direct connections from Google Data Studio to any internet accessible data source. Community Connectors are coded in Google Apps Script and Ben will talk about what they are, why you might want to build one and how to get started.

We hope you can join us on Friday 21 September at 7am PDT/10am EST/2pm GMT/7.30pm IST

FYI: The Apps Script reference docs now include an "Authorization" section for each method that requires authorization, which lists the required scopes for that method. This was added to assist folks using explicit scopes in the manifest file and need to know which scopes to add. Today the scopes are often the same across all methods of a service, but that may not always be the case.

Hey folks,
Are there any blocking issues that prevents you from using clasp, the Apps Script CLI? https://github.com/google/clasp/

Please comment here or say something in the GitHub repo issues. I'm looking to improve the Apps Script developer experience as much as possible.

Today I learned...
You can create a direct link to a specific line of code in an Apps Script project thanks to the following url parameters:
&f=FILE_NAME&s=LINE_NUMBER

Example with the FirebaseApp library (public project):

Discovered thanks to the new macro record feature

My colleague +Joanna Smith just put out a great post walking through how to automatically detect, sort, and email our action items in a Google Doc using Apps Script.

44 new add-ons released last month!
With now more than 1,000 add-ons available for Google Sheets, Docs, Forms and Slides, it can be hard to discover new useful ones.

Here’s the list of the 44 new add-ons published last month with a highlight on 5 add-ons we have found particularly interesting. We will try to publish a similar article every month to help G Suite users quickly see the new add-ons available.

Sundar interned with our team this past summer and did some great work. Here's an Apps Script and G Suite APIs overview he gave back at his university.

So psyched to see Gmail Add-ons launch! They are really easy to build and I'm already using a handful at work.
