Check it out.  The Kickstarter for the Integrated Space Plan (ISP); a real and detailed timeline of our future in space for the next 100 years.  This is an update to the original Integrated Space Plan developed by Ron Jones at Rockwell International in the late 1980s to include our current progress and projects and projected future (reference to original ISP: http://makezine.com/2013/07/06/the-rockwell-integrated-space-plan-vector-redux-version/).
The timeline includes current and future vehicles, stations, settlements and moon, mars and asteroid missions.

Many thanks to +Ethan Chew for organizing the ISDC panel on makerspaces and space exploration.  And for inviting Mach 30 to participate.  He ran the panel using Google+ Hangouts On Air, so you can watch the video below if you could not make it in person.

Makerspaces have been a rising phenomenon worldwide. They are community-operated physical places, where people can meet and work on their projects. Referencing the map at hackerspaces.org (http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/List_of_Hacker_Spaces), one can find a makerspace nearby to themselves. With the increasing availability of aerospace technology and scientific equipment, makerspaces have been engaging in space-based projects ranging from the development of launchers and spacesuits to research in planetary science, space education and promotion and sponsorship of makerspace-based space projects. We will be presenting a Q&A panel of experts at the International Space Development Conference in San Diego who currently work in these projects to discuss makerspaces and their space activities.

Well said.  I learned from my mentors about handling failure; 'don't be afraid to fail, try it before you think of quitting.  If you do fail, remember to regroup and learn. Don't throw away the lesson.'  I find it in teaching as well. Allow your students to learn by giving them room to try and fail.
In your experiences, how have you kept going when you wanted to quit and how have you dealt with failure?

A second, I recall this talk on Grit from Angela Lee Duckworth as the same as 'don't quit': http://www.ted.com/talks/angela_lee_duckworth_the_key_to_success_grit
And on discouraging the fear of failure by Regina Dugan: http://www.ted.com/talks/regina_dugan_from_mach_20_glider_to_humming_bird_drone
And a rather humorous take on embracing failure by Kathryn Schulz: http://www.ted.com/talks/kathryn_schulz_on_being_wrong
I had the opportunity recently to meet with Admiral Eric T. Olson, U.S. Navy (Retired), who had reached the pinnacle of leadership in the United States military. After a career as a U.S. Navy SEAL*,

My father put it another way:  If Edison was afraid to fail, he would have never failed to make one a thousand times, which led him to make the successful one. :)
