Double Three Hem Curtain System
The double three hem curtain system has two curtains for each run. Each of these curtains looks like the 1 piece 3 hem curtain system.

The top curtain and bottom curtain each cover about one-half of the clear opening.

The 2 piece 6 hem system operates with 2 drive units operating in the cage.

The top curtain is the first to be opened and the top curtain is the last to be closed. When fully closed the bottom curtain should overlap the wall/footer and the top curtain should overlap the bottom curtain. When fully opened the top curtain will be rolled up to the top pipe mounted to the header. The bottom curtain will be rolled up to the pipe mounted about one-half of the way from the head to the footer.

The 2 piece 6 hem curtain is typically used for larger openings (About 16’). The stacked 3 hem curtains allow for larger openings when needed.

For openings bigger than 16’ please contact us so that we can discuss your project and explain some options that might work for you.

3 Piece 6 Hem Curtain System

The 3 piece 6 hem curtain system has three curtains for each run. Each of the curtains are a two hem curtain. The top pipe of each curtain is mounted and the curtains roll up onto the bottom pipe. The top curtain is up and the header and the second and third are mounted about one-third and two-thirds of the way down the opening.

Each curtain covers about one-third of the clear opening. When fully closed the top curtain overlaps the middle and the middle overlaps the bottom, the bottom curtain overlaps the wall/footer.

The 3 piece 6 hem system operates with 3 drive units operating in the cage.

The top curtain is the first to be opened, followed by the middle curtain and finally the bottom curtain. When closing the order of operation is reversed and the bottom curtain is closed first, followed by the middle and then the top curtain is the last to be closed. When fully closed the bottom curtain should overlap the wall/footer and the middle and top curtains should overlap the curtain below it. When fully opened the top curtain will be rolled up to the top pipe mounted to the header. The middle and bottom curtain will be rolled up to the pipe mounted about one-third and two-thirds of the way from the head to the footer.

The 3 piece 6 hem curtain is typically used for cross ventilated or tunnel ventilated barns. The system is designed to better handle the static pressure in these types of barns with less wear on the components such as motors and the curtain fabric itself.

2 Piece 5 Hem Curtain System

The 5 hem curtain system has two curtains for each run. The bottom curtain looks and operates like the 1 piece 3 hem curtain except that the top pipe of the system is mounted about a third of the way down from the header and the 3 hem curtain rolls up to that point.

The top curtain in the system has 2 hems and generally covers about one-third of the clear opening. When fully closed the top curtain overlaps the top of the bottom 3 hem curtain.

The 2 piece 5 hem system operates with 2 drive units operating in the cage.

The top curtain is the first to be opened and the top curtain is the last to be closed. When fully closed the bottom curtain should overlap the wall/footer and the top curtain should overlap the bottom curtain. When fully opened the top curtain will be rolled up to the top pipe mounted to the header. The bottom curtain will be rolled up to the pipe mounted about one-third of the way from the head to the footer.

The 5 hem curtain is typically used for larger openings (approximately 6-14’). The two curtain system allows for larger openings and the system offers more flexibility for airflow location and amounts for the livestock as the top curtain is opened first so the first air is coming in higher over the livestock.

1 Piece 3 Hem System:

The 3 hem curtain system is a one piece curtain. The curtains roll on the center pipe and roll up to the top pipe. If the top pipe is at the header the curtain rolls up out of the way at the header.

The 1 piece 3 hem curtain system is typically used in smaller openings or in applications where the curtains tend to be open or closed. Because the first air comes in at the wall height this system sometimes works better for larger animals not as vulnerable to illness from air temperature changes.

The 1 piece 3 hem system operates with a single drive unit in the cage.

The curtain is made to overlap the concrete wall/footer – so it is important that the face of the column post be flush with the face of the wall/footer.

The 1 piece 3 hem curtain openings are generally smaller than 8’ 6” unless there are curtains on both sides of the barn in which case the opening can be a little larger.

Choose the Right Barn Curtain System

There are a lot of decisions that are made when planning a new barn or remodeling a barn. One of those decisions is what curtain system to use for your ventilation needs.

Some factors to consider in making the decision include the size of the livestock that will be in the building, the fans or plan for air flow, the size of the opening, and the weather conditions & temperature fluctuations in your area.
