Great. They didn't have the ham I wanted so I grabbed a package labelled 'uncured.' Not realizing until I got it home that it also says 'smoked.' How can it be smoke cured and uncured?!

I just finished uploading and commenting on images I took at and around the Capital Overlook of Frankfort, Kentucky in the Fall of 1998:

Yow. Five bats were found dead of rabies in and around a local elementary school.

This whole day has been filled with bizarre, unlikely and very annoying occurrences.

Just now, I am having a world class klutz attack. I've stubbed the same toe twice in under five minutes. I bumped the refrigerator, and while straightening it somehow knocked the spray bottle of window cleaner off the top. When the bottle hit the floor it broke the top off and window cleaner went all over the vinyl. I don't have any empty bottles to put the glass cleaner in so I had to wrap the neck in tape. Oog...

I just saw an Apple add which bragged about their recent financial accomplishment:

APPLE REACHED A $1,000,000,000 (ONE TRILLION DOLLAR) VALUATION.

Anyone else notice something odd about the number? Isn't that a billion, instead of a trillion?

I really, really, really hate when Windows tells me I've entered an incorrect password before it lets me enter a password.

I'm having some odd aggravations at MidAmeriCon II (The San Jose WorldCon). Two different coffee shops (one of which proudly listed butter croissants on their menu board) had croissants but no butter.

I'm also having strange equipment failures. My pad - which I primarily use to show photos at cons - has developed a bulge in its back and won't lay flat. It also won't boot properly, even when plugged in. The case is sealed; if this is all due to the battery going bad there doesn't seem to by any way to replace that.

I tried four different ways to post preliminary con photos to Flickr from my laptop, but even though I can log into my account, when I try the upload I'm taken to a Flickr page which says I'm not authorized to access!

I took the lens cap off my primary camera and put it in my camera bag. It wasn't there when I looked later. Or anywhere else I thought to look!

Now, my Internet connection at my hotel keeps dropping!

Finally, the TV in my room will play sound, but there's no picture!

Around 3:00 yesterday I started feeling better. I did some trimming (would have done more, but the second battery wasn't as charged as it should have been) then finished the mowing. Still feeling fine. Hopefully, I'm over whatever was wrong Monday and early Tuesday.

I did about ten minutes of mowing yesterday morning before realizing I was being stupid. By the time I got back inside the heat and humidity were already both very high. I had lunch, then went out and did some errands for my mother, picked up a prescription and got a Hep-A vaccination (the first of two, with the second coming in a few months). Then I went shopping, something not on my original schedule.

When I flushed the toilet before leaving the house the lift rod broke. I had spare lift rods. However, it broke flush with the top of the dump valve. No problem, I had a spare ball for that. Only it turned out I didn't!

Neither did Lowe's. Neither did Wal-Mart.

Disgruntled, tired and very hot, I went home. I checked, and found that Yagel's True Value - on the other side of town - was open until 7:00. So, after supper, I went over there and bought the last two of that specific ball valve they had. Got home and completed repairs. Yay!

Except that I was exhausted. I went to bed early, planning to finish the yard this morning. Only I was still exhausted after breakfast. I took a nap. Still exhausted. Maybe this evening I can cut the grass out front, or at least run the string trimmer. Oog...
