Moving Tips & Skills

When Choosing a moving company:
When you are choosing a moving company there are many things to consider. First, and most important is to make sure the company is bonded and insured. There are many companies out there that will either not obtain insurance due to the high cost or will lose their insurance due to the cost or because their damage claims are too high. Every insurance company can simply email or fax a document to the customer to state that insurance in valid and in good standing.

The second most important would have to be their hiring and training policy. Many moving companies will simply hire an employee without any experience and throw them out on a job on their first day. This is not good for anyone, as this is when damages occur. It is always best to have employees at least partially trained in the company warehouse before sending them out to work. The best way to figure this one out is to look up reviews on that particular company or to look for a craigslist ad from that particular company to see what their hiring policy might be. If you get a crew that shows up and they are not living up to your standards most of the time you can simply call the management and tell them, you want different workers and usually they will do what they can to accommodate!

Thirdly, is the price! Most moving companies in northern Colorado are comparable. They will charge anywhere from $85 per hour to $130 per hour for a 2 man crew. You can also pay for up to a 4 man crew which I would recommend. When you have 4 men working on a site things go more than twice as fast. This is because you can keep one mover in the truck packing everything to the best of his abilities and have the other 3 consistently bring items to the packer. Any crew above 4 men though would slow down progress unless they are loading more than one truck at a time. My best recommendation would be to choose someone in the middle if price is a main concern. They are usually the small more personable companies that still do things the right way and have insurance!

In Conclusion,
I have given you the best tips I can when choosing a moving company. A quick tip is to always have the moving company send a free estimator out to do an estimate. This is good for both the company and the customer as you know what you will be paying and the company knows how long the job will take. If it’s a good estimator you will pay the estimated amount or less for the move. Also be as honest as you can. Make sure you make the estimator aware of every single item being moved down to the last spoon in your kitchen drawer!
