Please note that if you post a lot of photos to this community that are not yours, and you rarely give credit to the real photographers, I will consider this "spam", and I will ban you.

Light enough - The new Lighthouse Micro Lantern from Goal Zero is one of my new favorite omni-directional lanterns for Low Level Landscape Lighting (LLL) of my starry night landscape images ("NightScapes"). It can deliver up to 150 lumens of warm, 3800ºK light, but it can also be dimmed to as low as 7 lumens—that’s less than one candle power! It uses a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery capable of running for 7 hours at full power and 170 hours at the dimmest setting. Check out my lighting tutorial in today’s NightScaper.com blog: http://intothenightphoto.blogspot.com/2016/11/omni-directional-light-painting-with.html

If you do “NightScape” style light painting like I do, you may be interested in the new LiFE LiTE by Lume Cube —it’s 1/2 price, 1/2 the size, and 1/3 the weight of the original Lume Cube, yet it packs 1000 lumens of light! Check it out at http://Ws8n7mWH.kckb.st

"Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;

I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
—Sarah Williams

This is a single tracked exposure I took of the Milky Way in the Grand Tetons. Canon 5DM3, Rokinon 24mm, f/5.6, 110 sec, ISO 2000, mounted on a Vixen Polarie star tracker. A radial zoom filter was applied in post.

HELP! I’m writing a book with quotes from poets, scientists, and philosophers who have been in awe and inspired by our starry night skies. I have hundreds of quotes from great thinkers, most of whom come from the Western world, and many with Judeo-Christian values. However, I lack quotes from great Eastern world thinkers or religious leaders (Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism). Can you share some of your favorite quotes or point me to the right people?

That would be very sad news indeed.

It seems that our parks are being loved to death. Too many people visit too small of an area like Zion or Yosemite Valley.

Add in modern digital cameras, selfies, social media and it seems some parks are truly overrun.

The NPS is trying to protect a resource and then have to curtail activities and visitation. It is a tough job.

To tell you how popular night photography has become,
I was set up at 4am in Big Bend Ranch State Park and two different cars with other people showed up to photograph the same location. I let them have the spot and went to find someplace else.

NightScape Photographer
Introduction
As a magazine photographer for over two decades, I've enjoyed a wide variety of assignments. I also enjoy helping other photographers achieve their Photo Vision. My current emphasis is on a night photography style I call "NightScapes": Starry night skies with a unique landscape feature --many of which are light-painted to enhance recognition. I also feature other photographers in my Into The Night Photography blog, complete with tips, tutorials, and equipment reviews.
Bragging rights
I've been a professional illustrative photographer and an international lecturer for 20 years. My clients have included IBM and General Motors, and have appeared in National Geographic, The Smithsonian, American Photo, and on the covers of numerous books.
