Inspiration (no posting)  -

I've "pinned" this post to the top of the community for a few hours (it may stay for up to 24 hours), in order for it to get the attention it deserves. Be sure to check out +Csaba Daróczi's Flickr and ViewBug portfolios:

This post is now archived in the "Inspiration (no posting)" section for future reference.

I try to pick one unique and creative image at least once a week to showcase in this community. It must be original work (not re-shared). I'll also try to keep this community as free from spam as I can —when I'm not in the "bush" shooting NightScapes and teaching workshops.

I also have a milky way photo that is in the running for the  "People's Choice" award at an art show I will be participating in the end of April. It is also the last day to vote. Check it out in my stream. If you feel it is worthy please give it a vote and share it.

Thanks to +Jeff Clow for helping me to announce my new eBook.

Ever wanted to take one of those great night photos that shows the stars and milky way across the black sky?  The kind that makes you say....WOW.

Well today there is finally a guide for this type of work written by a good friend of mine. This is the only book you'll ever need for nightscapes.  It is easy to read, easy to use and written by the world's foremost authority - +Royce Bair  - on night photography.  A group of photographers and I used it recently on a night shoot in Moab with stellar results.  The recipe on page 50 of how to set up the shot with clear step by step instructions is alone worth the price.

Highly recommended for everyone who ever thought of doing this type of photography
The Milky Way over Lower Yellowstone Falls is the cover on Royce Bair's new "Milky Way NightScapes" eBook. My new ebook, "Milky Way NightScapes" is now available: PDF format, 140 pages, over 33,000 words of test, with over 49...

WARNING to others in this community: I will soon start BANNING people who post images as their own (do not give credit to the original creator). If you cannot find who the owner is via a Google Images reverse search, then say, "Image is not mine". This image is by +Michael Goh and his watermark has been cropped off — unethical and a possible copyright violation!

Milky Way stars over Teton Range - Listen to my podcast about this shot: http://intothenightphoto.blogspot.com/2015/03/nightscape-podcast-with-royce-bair-and.html #milkywayphotography   #nightscape   #nightphotography

This photo was taken from the Cascade Canyon Overlook in Grand Teton National Park. The foreground was light-painted with 2-million candlepower spotlight from camera right. Using an intervalometer, I was able to walk about 800 feet to the right (about 300 feet past the view of the camera), and have the camera remotely open the shutter, while I paint the scene during the 30 second exposure. This view is looking southeast, and was taken about three hours after sunset. The orange glow to the left of the Milky Way is light pollution from the town of Jackson, WY, about 20 miles away. The orange glow in the notch of the Teton Range is from the Idaho Falls metro area, about 75 miles away.

Is this one single 30sec shot? or a composition of a few? i been reading on your blog many great articles and been learning a bunch, thou i am still very Raw :) ..I'm about to buy a Mark iii but i heard the 6D is also very good for night photography, can i ask what is you opinion if there's much difference? i know one is more sensitive like one stop -3 to -2 does that make a huge difference? i also want to do landscapes and possibly portraits with it if i can learn enough to try n make a living that be great since i am disable and can use a little extra income if i can,but the most important thing is learning at this point, and just enjoying the night in a exciting new way.

NightScape Photographer
Introduction
As a magazine photographer for over two decades, I've enjoyed a wide variety of assignments. I also enjoy helping other photographers achieve their Photo Vision. My current emphasis is on a night photography style I call "NightScapes": Starry night skies with a unique landscape feature --many of which are light-painted to enhance recognition. I also feature other photographers in my Into The Night Photography blog, complete with tips, tutorials, and equipment reviews.
Bragging rights
I've been a professional illustrative photographer and an international lecturer for 20 years. My clients have included IBM and General Motors, and have appeared in National Geographic, The Smithsonian, American Photo, and on the covers of numerous books.

Had dinner here last week. Excellent food. Good service, and an amazing view of Jackson Lake, even at night.
