Working in the field of Mental Health has changed and challenged my outlook of life and given me more understanding of what the individuals and families go though on daily.

A lot of people don't believe ADHD is a "real" mental health problem. "If you're hyper, just calm down." This article speaks to the symptoms of Adult ADHD and their impact. If you have adult ADHD, comment below and tell us the most significant symptom you experience and how it affects you.

There are also a lot of overlapping symptoms with SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder). My younger son looks ADHD but is SPD, a seeker.

--> Why did you start using drugs or alcohol? And did you realize you might end up an addict? Comment below.

"I tried it as a matter of curiosity. I drifted along taking shots when I could score. I ended up hooked. Most addicts I have talked to report a similar experience. They did not start using drugs for any reason they can remember. They just drifted along until they got hooked." ~ William S. Burroughs, Junky

No one starts using drugs with the intention of becoming an addict unless they have serious mental health/ self/ destructive issues .

Have you heard of the term "depression self-stigma". It keeps a lot of people who are suffering with depression from getting the help they need. "Coping with Depression" blog author, Erin Schulthies, discusses how to stop depression self-stigma.

Therapy is an excellent option for the treatment of anxiety, but there are several different types of anxiety therapy. Tanya Peterson, author of the "Anxiety-Schmanxiety" blog, provides information to help you decide which type of therapy for anxiety might be best for you.

Actually, therapy is the ONLY option for the treatment of anxiety. Medication does not treat; it manages symptoms. It is palliative care. Treatment resolves some or all of the problem. Only psychotherapy is capable of doing that.

It's not uncommon to hear an alcoholic or addict shout out, "Leave me alone. I'm not hurting anyone." It's not true, though. The entire family is affected by the alcoholic's behavior. As a family member of an alcohol addict, learn what you can do to help. More on the "Mental Health Treatment Circle" blog.

Great job, thank you again for another thoughtful article. I would add Alanon meetings or groups for adult children of alcoholics so anyone with an alcoholic family member can speak with and be supported by others who have been there.
