CUBA TRIP!

Hello everyone! Speaking on travel photography this week, I have just left Vancouver to travel to Havana (Cuba), where I will be leading a photography workshop. Internet in Cuba is unpredictable at best, so it might take me a little bit longer to respond in the next week.

I am flying back to Canada on Tuesday next week (March 7). I am planing to post next week's class on Monday as per our usual schedule, but depending on my internet connection I might be a day late and post on Tuesday when I am back in the country!

Have a great week everyone and I'll be sure to share some photography from Cuba when I am back!

Here is an additional video I made to show you behind-the-scenes of another image I created in Iceland. I also talk about Panoramic photography and show you how my 'special' camera works (the one that you can see in action in the Skogafoss video posted this week as well).

Again your questions / comments are welcome!

Next week, I will go into post-processing techniques, including how to assembled panoramic images.

Hello everyone,

here is a video a friend of mine is working on currently....it shows me traveling through Iceland last September, so I thought it would fit the theme of today's lesson. There is nothing explicitly instructional, but some amazing footage (including many drone shots) that gives you a great idea of what the Icelandic landscape looks like.

I hope this will help to inspire you to get out there and shoot!

The video is still in the works, so please keep the link private among participants in this course only. Thank you!

Landscape Photography Assignment - Due Sunday March 5th

Please share 1 - 3 landscape images with the class (please post them into the Landscape Assignment 4 area here in the community)

Remember that you do not have to travel far for these images a local park, or even your backyard, would be a perfect location. You may submit a maximum of 1 image that was taken previously, but when you do please include at least a second image that was taken 'fresh' for this assignment.

I am open as far as subject matter, camera technique, as well as post production technique, but I do ask you to aim and keep your compositions strong and simple. Try and capture a mood and/or emotion. Please browse the list of landscape photographers I have posted, and feel free to ask questions!

As always, please also leave your feedback on a minimum of 2 other photographs submitted by your 'class mates' -))

Looking forward to seeing your images!

Some inspirational landscape photographers!

This list is far from complete, and I know it is 'biased' towards fine-art black and white landscape photography....but I thought it would be useful to share.

Here is my list:

Michael Kenna: http://www.michaelkenna.net/

Chris Mccaw: http://www.chrismccaw.com/SUNBURN/SUNBURN.html

David Burdeny: http://www.davidburdeny.com/

Josef Hoflehner: http://www.josefhoflehner.com/japan.html

Olivier Du Tre: http://www.olivierdutre.com/#!/portfolio/C0000MHMPt6fNlxc/G0000HWFb9JlN3O4

And finally, I wanted to add Peter Eastway (different style to everyone listed before):

Resources for Landscape Photography:

The Photographer's Ephemeris - Sunset/sunrise times and direction of light at specific times of the day.

Stuck in Customs - HDR Photography Resource (free tutorial available).

Much dispute and arguments can be found everywhere, but I recommend everyone having a look and make up your own mind about whether you like this post processing driven 'type' of photography.

The PANO Awards - Inspiration and lots of examples for panoramic photography. I will discuss more details during the workflow class, but take a look at this link to see what is possible:

Finally, here is a link to a blog article about tilt/shift lenses. I personally find these lenses very useful for landscape photography (and they can very effective for architectural photography as well).

What are some of your favorite landscape photographers?

Please feel free to share links in the comments below. If possible, include why your like their work and/or specific photographs.

Feel free to include any questions you might have about the work as well!
