You Can't Lead the Cavalry If You Think You Look Stupid on a Horse....

One of the most common challenges we find with leaders is this perception. It manifests itself in a variety of ways - fear of failure, inability to have difficult conversations, and more simply, being able to lead the way confidently. We find being self-conscious as a leader is something that can be worked upon and dealt with. Has anyone got any experience of this - or feel it themselves?

Language, the choice of words and how we communicate, personally and professionally. I think we can all relate. Leaders and managers often blame the recipient for their lack of understanding - more often than not it lies with us.

Came across this very useful summary that applies to students but I think it applies to managers and leaders just as much!

I come across The Worrier and The Crisis Maker a lot in my work.

Recognise anyone? Yourself?

" Wise owners do not blame the fish for their poor appearance or performance. They do not take the fish out from time to time to give them a spot of training....., tell them to smarten up and look lively, then plop them back in the same dirty water. Instead, they clean the tank." Dr William Tate.

A guiding principle of what we do at Spring (and to add some more wise words 'culture will eat strategy for breakfast') - all of our work with individuals and teams is aimed at cleaning the tank, affecting and helping improve the culture.

Important Message from a very good friend of mine:

Hi, I’m sorry to approach you with such a sombre subject but I was wondering if you’d take a moment to spread a very important message to as many people as you can. You may just save a life in doing so.

Alys Cole-King is an acquaintance of mine, she is a consultant psychiatrist in North Wales and is speaking out about a recent Netflix series called 13 Reasons Why which she feels sensationalising teen suicide. Sadly my own fourteen year old god-daughter took an overdose last weekend so this is very close to my heart at the moment.

Please take a few moments to read the following links: http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/861/news/45198 and http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/top-psychiatrist-slams-netflix-drama-13214006

Please forward this to as many people as you can, put it on Facebook, Twitter and any other platform that will help this message reach as many teenagers and parents of teenagers.

Thanks in advance

Couldn't agree more! Leadership of meetings as important as leadership itself.
If a meeting is the appropriate means to accomplish your goals, check with the participants who must attend for the meeting to succeed.

Very true, finding the right way to expand your idea generation by widening the things that challenge you intellectually is a daily leadership task. 'Intellectually hungry' is the best way I think to describe the feature of good and great leaders.
The responsible use of power not only enhances power, it defines true leadership.
