"It is quite apparent that the leading intellectual lights of conservatism will have nothing to do with a Trump administration, should one materialize. Already, many conservatives — George Will, Bill Kristol, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Max Boot, Brent Bozell, Eliot Cohen, Robert Kagan, the entire staff of National Review, Rep. Justin Amash, Rep. Floyd Flake, Sen. Mark Kirk, Sen. Ben Sasse, Peter Wehner, Yuval Levin, and too many others to name — have signaled their unalterable opposition to Trump. They want nothing to do with him now or ever."
Hordes of Republicans are rending their garments over their presidential nominee, and more than a few of them have begun to consider whether they should vote for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate — or just stay home.

Could be nothing but a fizzle... or it could be something else worth considering.

After all, More was executed for his silence... not for standing between Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn sneering "no."

What conservatives ought to be doing is articulating a clear path forward, one that is constitutional in size and libertarian in scope, that will not get us to that shining city on a hill tomorrow... but lays out the path for the next 20 years in bold, responsible language that unleashes the American economy and inspires a generation.
The principles that made America great once before can make her great again...

A mildly intellectually honest look forward demonstrates that Trump’s way forward isn’t a way forward at all — it’s a strategic retreat with no path to victory.

"As Republicans, we often wonder why our conservative message struggles to be heard among minority and ethnic populations.  When statements such as these come from leaders within any part of the Republican Party, leaders who set the tone for who we are and what we believe as Republicans, they render outreach nearly impossible."

If McAuliffe is serious about linking education reform to workforce development?  Sign me up...
Count me in as optimistic -- and perhaps a bit giddy -- about the prospect of something radical, new, and innovative from the Governor on education reform and workforce development.

The proof is in: the GOP base isn’t small-government libertarian; it’s old-fashioned populist.

Whether the message from the populist wing of the party is "Send Them A Message" or "Make America Great Again" the consequences remains the same.  Populist revanchism is not the future of freedom in America.  To paraphrase the man himself: not now, not tomorrow, not ever.
Trump's contrarian style mirrors that of George Wallace, but such populist sentiment is not conservative -- not in the slightest.

These voices shouldn’t define us, but the longer we — as conservatives — allow them to, and the longer we sweep them under the rug?  They will continue to do the very damage that Buckley warned against when he admonished the John Birchers and the Randian objectivists: two gangrenous strands which are dangerously infecting the Republican Party.

How do you catch a criminal?  Make everything a crime...
McDonnell and Khodorkovsky share a similar tale, and it's one we ought to pay attention to.
