My mother died when I was just 5. I had only my father left, my grandmother had not wanted to leave me with him, so she took me into her care, I didn’t realise what was happening until I was 7; My grandmother told me that my father had journeyed from the straying area and he was killed by the hungry animals that lived there, But I didn’t realise she was lying.
My father was still alive, working for the strange but handsome prince that someday I will be married to. He only is he not strange but he is handsome and full of adventure. I have no one but the sound of my grandmother’s voice waking me up “ get up, get up” she tells me every morning, I hear the kettle go on the stove, today is Tuesday; the worst day of my life.
I swung my sword at the trainer and he met my clash with his own sword “you’re getting stronger” he said, “it must be all the training” I said jokingly. He laughed “you have not done enough training”, I smiled at this comment. My trainer was tall, dark and handsome and he was muscly. He tries every morning to beat me in a sword fight but I keep winning. I look at him with fresh eyes every morning, and he always jokes, IF YOU NOT TALL YOU MUST BE SMALL, (not funny if you ask me).
My grandmother’s voice was shrill and it then broke the cool morning air, “breakfast” .The trainer laughed “hate to be you”, I walked up to the back door smelling the fresh bread; I was starving. I smiled at my frail old grandmother who has taken care of me for 12 years and I owed her a least a smile. She used to tell me tales of the old ones and the secret immortals, Little did I know that I was related to them and possessed the blood of the old ones and the immortals, she told me this only 2 years ago when she thought I could take it, she was wrong. I ran away for a few days and that’s when I found my father and then handsome young prince. The prince and I shared a secret connection we both wanted to run away and be free but we were kept captive until we were old enough to face the dangers that lay outside the borders. That’s when he asked me to marry him but I was afraid so there I was hand in hand with the most amazing prince and I turned him down. I wept after he stalked away, I wanted to say yes but I couldn’t, at that last moment he turned around a said “I will find you and I will marry you”. I still wait to this very day for him.
The next day, I waited at the front door while my grandmother made the last of her jams, she then closed the door and made her way to the grounds, she stopped by the apple tree at the front yard and grabbed a few, she then walked across the dirty muddy road onto the soft grass, I didn’t follow. I saw a carriage to grand to be one of our richest people, It was the prince; he had found me after all.
I cried out in relief in relief and I saw him turn around so he could see me. He suddenly smiled “told you I would find you” he said, I laughed, this is what I always wanted. MY grandmother came over and bowed respectably at the prince, she smiled. My grandmother had no teeth so the prince looked at me and smirked, I slapped him across the shoulder but I started to walk away, he grabbed my arm “where are you going?” he asked me with a look of confusion, I smiled but walked away, where I stood at the side of the stage and pointed up. I walked away and I climbed on the stage and stood up and opened my mouth, I sang like opera house singers but in a lower voice, the crowd cheered and clapped and the prince climbed on stage and got on one knee, “will you marry me” he said. I gasped and thought about my family and friends, the crowd was going wild and I smiled “yes” I said, the prince then slowly climbed up on his feet and slid the ring on my finger, I smiled again but brighter, he smiled back to, it was warm and challenging, he slowly dipped down and placed a small kiss on my lips before taking my hand and taking me down to the carriage that waited us. My father was there at the carriage door waiting for it to be opened, I smiled at him and he glowered at my, I then frowned did he not remember me. He opened up the door and bowed us inside. The ride to the castle was very bumpy and quiet, but before we stopped at the gates, the prince turned to me and said “can you sing for mother and father, so they can love you a little bit more”, when I nodded my head the gates opened and a castle appeared before us, it was grand and it was old, the garden’s nearby where flourishing with flowers of every kind. There was two servants standing at the gates and they opened the doors of the carriage. As I stepped out, the grand oak doors of the castle opened, the long and dark hallway was filled with chairs and paintings that were very dark so you could not see them. I gasped in surprise.
