Mattie Gootee: Jane, I just read your article on feeding sunflower seeds to chickens. I did not see any restrictions on the amounts added to their feed per day. Since they don't crack them open for the kernel inside like other birds, their gizzards have to do a lot of work to grind up the hulls and they may get an 'impacted' or 'stopped up' gizzard. That is serious and would kill them eventually. What do you think?
Jane Meggitt: I've been feeding black oil sunflower seeds to my chickens for 20 years and have never had a problem. Their plumage is gorgeous.
