What's your H-Index for this year so far?

Sort your games by number of times you have played them. Count down the list until the number of plays is equal to or higher then the order in the list. That is your H-Index.

Using this metric had encouraged me to explore games more fully instead of jumping to the newest hotness.

I am currently at an 8.

Oh, we're going to the last game that is greater than or equal to the number of plays, not the first game that isn't?  In that case, my index is 6.

Played a new game called #Phoenicia last night. The score is the tall cylinder. As you can tell the winner is twice as far ahead and it only got worse the rest of the game. It seems like whoever gets the overlord is unstoppable.

This is not one I would pay again due to the frustration of losing so badly. The losing three stopped playing right about this point and just let blue win to end the suffering.

Was there something I missed? Can you possibly catch up from behind? Plus the overlord never changes since he has the highest score so he gets even more cards for cheap.

This is one of my favourite games. The player with the Overlord actually has a disadvantage, as he has access to earlier cards which are usually weaker and can be challenged (or not) by opponent bids on all cards. It's pretty much the same disadvantage as being first player in the bidding phase of Power Grid.

It's true, however, that Phoenicia can suffer from snowballing, but it eventually disappear on the second game, when players know the cards in advance and plan their strategies accordingly and carefully. The Dyer card looks very strong at first, but I have lost a few games with it as it brings a lot of money but not a lot of VP.

When you travel to a new place it's good to try the local customs. Working in Holland this week, and it's bike heaven. Borrowed a beater from my shop and enjoying the short commute back and forth.

Why rent a car when the office is 2.5 miles from your hotel and there are bike paths everywhere.

Biggest problem? To many bikes and not enough parking spots.

That is a lot of fiddly bits, but a nice win for the volcano scenerio in Robinson Crusoe.

Thanks for the Dawn tip. I'll have to try that. The bike is an Alpha 2.5. No idea what year. Bought it used.

Got to play a brand new game tonight #guildsoflondon. It's a hand management /area control game. Lots of icons, and for the most part you could figure them out. The developer is still fine tuning the game. It should be released at Essen this year.

Don't play it if your group has sensitive feeling. It's cutthroat right to the end.

Nothing really new mechanic wise, but a solid game overall by combining a few different ones into a single game. #gamefest #calgary

Small World just getting started. So many little cardboard fun bits. All strategy with a tiny bit of luck. +Heather Morrow always seems to win this one.

Underworld is the separate standalone expansion and I believe you can get tunnels that connect the two maps for free some how. It's just a few tiles.

Five people is insane. Everything changes by your turn. Fountain and fruit stand where on opposite sides. Strategies changed every round. #Istanbul

The wife and I didn't think it was overly long. I do agree that it is a bit tough to teach though. We did enjoy the game.
