"There's nothing wrong with going to a bar with friends and having a good time.  But just make certain you're not being a racist shit while you're doing it."

I am glad that I am not the only person to think that St. Patrick's Day is racist.

In Soviet Russia, Google+ is bad at you. Doesn't "Google" sound like a Russian word anyway?

Use Chrome if you are not already. TONS of fucntionality there. Also, get a bunch of followers, then as you see the kind of content they publish, put them in appropriater circles.

Want to take some astronomy photos with your iPhone? Here's a cool clip you can use to connect your iPhone to the eyepiece of your telescope. Except, this doesn't exist yet. It's a proposal for a Kickstarter project to actually make these clips. At the time I'm writing this, the inventor needs another $12,000 in pledges to go into production.

Pass the word along, if this is something you'll like to see built. I think it's a great idea.
They say necessity is the mother of invention, and if you’ve ever tried to take a picture through a telescope with your iPhone you’ll understand the necessity behind this invention: the AstroClip, an ...

When anti-WiFi cranks organize, they get crazier and crazier.

Also, I am now "Word Swindler" Adjust your Holiday cards to me accordingly.

My latest at Skeptic North, in which I continue to be flabbergasted at the cranks who spread fear and panic over wifi technology.

+Steve Thoms We should ask skeptics on G+ to complete the Havas surveymonkey survey on wi-fi too. I live in Peterborough and Havas is a thorn in my skeptical side.

Hello, swaths of people adding me who I don't know! If I do know you, and I haven't added you, please let me know. Otherwise, I hope you'll respect that I won't add anyone who I don't know. Thanks.

It's okay to add people you don't know just to circles dedicated to an interest or topic. Eg. I've added you to "Skeptics and freethinkers" "KW Locals" "astronomy" and "people I know from Twitter"
I look at it as a cross between FB and Twitter; I can have both RL Friends AND people I don't know who talk about things of interest, all neatly categorized

I'm sure that if I was just hiking, I'd had a better time. But my wife and I brought our dog with the expectation that we could take her swimming (a place to take dogs swimming is ridiculously hard to find in Guelph). The trail to get to the river was long, humid, and crazy-buggy. Once we finally got to the river, our dog sank down to her chest in the mud while swampy undergrowth tangled around her feet. There was no other sign of civilization...it was dark and isolated, it felt like we were in The Arena in The Hunger Games. This is normally a good thing in a park, but it's hard to see it as a dog-friendly park when there's no garbage cans around for when she inevitably drops a deuce.

Okay, I'll never waste my time and money at this place ever again. I advise you do the same. 1)The fruit was mealy, and had some fruit flies on it 2)The omelet bar had closed and no one told us it was closing; when we ordered omelets from the menu, they were terrible 4)Coffee was old and bitter 5)Many buffet items seemed like they had been out for a long time (especially the scrambled eggs) 6) We had complained to the waitress, who simply said "Sorry". 7) When we got home and I called to complained to the manager on duty, I was told that she couldn't give a refund (A manager can't give a refund? What kind of business is this?), but could only give us some food vouchers (for the terrible food that I had JUST complained about). 8) Oh, and the bill came to $47. For TWO people. For BREAKFAST. One of the worst diners I've ever had the misfortune of eating at.
