The world is a safer, more peaceful place.

http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(15)00480-8/fulltext

Between 1870 and 1969, a drumbeat of recurrent epidemic hunger killed 140 million people in 45 great and calamitous famines, defined as food crises that cause excess deaths of more than 100 000 and 1 million people, respectively. During the 1970s and 1980s, 5·4 million people died in famines, including the last two calamitous famines on record—Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge in the late 1970s and Ethiopia in 1984–85. In the past 25 years, that fatal drumbeat has faded. There have been just six great famines since 1990, which in total have killed some 1·4 million people, about half of them North Koreans—a cumulative death toll equivalent to the yearly average of the century before 1970.

But I love so many things! So many ways to die.

“My dear,
Find what you love and let it kill you. Let it drain from you your all. Let it cling to your back and weigh you down to eventual nothingness. Let it kill you, and let it devour your remains. For all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it is better to be killed by a lover.
~ Falsely yours”

― Charles Bukowski

Australia: the tease.  Beautiful, exotic, dangerous. She will kill you. You dare not step foot in the water or sit out on the porch with spiders, or really, do anything ever.

Approaching Mt. Fuji

I spent today on a quest to see Mt. Fuji!  I've always wanted to visit the amazing area around the famous volcano, but never had the chance until now.  I was so excited!  We started out the journey here in this little village of Saiko.  After taking some photos, we went inside one of these little buildings and up some small stairs to sit on the floor and eat some soba.  It was a great start for the journey! :)

Want to thank Marcus from Total Pool Care. He is kind and concerned, prompt and competent. He helped fix my pool this week and prevented a potentially costly problem with my pool. Thanks!
