Sony Xperia Z1S pictured in the wild with leaked image

Sony's rumoured Xperia Z1S variant has been spotted in a leaked live image. The Sony Xperia Z1S has made multiple appearances on the Internet previously via leaked renders but this is the first time the device has been spotted in live images. The latest leaked image comes from ePrice, which claims that the yet-to-be-announced smartphone was spotted at a headphone announcement event in Taiwan. The image shows the Xperia Z1S in White colour, though only the front panel is visible. However, the alleged device appears to be an exact copy of its elder sibling, the Xperia Z1, in terms of design.

BBM for Android caught in fake app reviews row; BlackBerry denies activity

BlackBerry seems to be on seventh heaven after the cross platform version of its BBM or BlackBerry Messenger app recorded 10 million downloads and positive reviews. However, it looks like a large number of positive reviews, at least on the app's Android listing on the Google Play store, appear to be fake or 'astroturfed' (paid or a PR effort). One of the reasons for doubting the intent behind the BBM for Android reviews was that they featured the same text complete with grammatical errors, and a five star rating. The text said, "Thank you so much Blackberry team. I was waiting this app. It is really great user friendly and smooth." These reviews were first spotted by Matt Baxter-Reynolds who posted a screenshot on Twitter.

Samsung fined by Taiwan's FTC for defaming HTC

Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission on Thursday fined the local unit of South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. for defaming the reputation of Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corp. In a notice on its website, the consumer protection body said that Samsung had organized an Internet campaign in violation of fair trade rules to praise Samsung smartphones while slamming those of HTC. The FTC set Samsung's fine at New Taiwan dollars 10 million ($340,000). It also leveled smaller fines on two Taiwanese trading companies it said were responsible for mounting the Internet campaign.

Nokia unveils first tablet as part of Microsoft's consumer device push

Nokia unveiled its first tablet computer and new large-screen smartphones, which will form part of Microsoft's push in consumer devices when it takes over the Finnish company's handset business. The products serve as a poignant way to mark the end of an era for the former global leader in mobile phones, representing its engineers' last-ditch attempts at regaining market share from Apple and Samsung after its pitifully slow start to the smartphone race. Analysts said that the Lumia 2520 tablet, along with the Lumia 1320 and lumia 1520 smartphones with 6-inch screens, are priced low enough to attract interest but questioned whether they could compete with rivals launching similar products in time for the gift-giving holiday season.

Microsoft working on Google Glass competitor

After Google, it looks like Microsoft is also planning to unveil its own version of smart glasses. While the Redmond giant is already rumoured to be working on a smartwatch, it's testing prototypes for Internet connected eyewear, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, that cites people familiar with the matter as sources for the information. The report does not elaborate on the features, availability and pricing of the device. It's not the first time that the news of Microsoft working on smart eyewear has emerged. Previously, a note by analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets, also suggested the same.
