Wow. This is big. Even if it is hard to "see" or understand this new phase, its existence changes science. This is the new nanotubes where a fourth form of carbon was discovered.

While it may "excite" the chemists among us, I am thrilled and know that lots of work is left to go.

Two bowl in Douglas fir. I got lucky. They did not spin apart. The larger on is 11" in diameter. The smaller on is just 5.5". I am leaving both unfinished. Just burnished with another piece of fir.

I made 2.5 bowls this weekend. They are out of kiln dried redwood from the construction site at work. Two came out wonderful at 6" and 11" in diameter. The last was an 11" bowl that I saw had a crack but decided to turn anyway. As I was nearing completion, it had a catastrophic failure. Too bad. It would have been pretty.

My last bowl of 2013 and first of 2014. They are purpleheart and walnut. Both are about 6" in diameter by 3" tall.

The walnut tore out bad and required lots of sanding to get rid do the messy end grain. Any ideas on how to stop that. I tried taking light passes in both directions with my scraper. No difference. Same with the bowl gouge.

Oh. The spoons are old ones made of oak and maple. I used them just as a size reference.

Here are two mulberry bowls I turned for Christmas. I started them in May. The one dark photo is an attempt to show how I plugged wormholes with epoxy. Overall. I am delighted how both came out. Both are about 9 inches in diameter.

Thanks to Tom's Workbench and the Shop monkey, I tried a last minute elf project. Here are some of the 10 wine glass holders I made. Now my wife is insisting we give them with glasses and wine.
