I never write reviews unless it was really good...or really bad. There was NOTHING that I tried that I didn't like. The kindness of everyone that works there is a rare find. The atmosphere is nice. It's not noisy like you may imagine it would be. The food was EXCELLENT! I highly recommend the blood orange margaritas (these are the only margaritas I've liked) and El Vez cake cannot be neglected from mentioning. Excellent choice for anyone looking for good Mexican cuisine.

One of the best restaurants in Center City. Several types of guacamole, shrimp tacos, or blood orange margaritas!! Everything is good here.

I had a great dinner experience with some friends. The tacos and drinks were amazing. The energy of the ambiance was great for conversation and a fun time. It's great for groups out on the town or catching up. The decorations are bright and warm. I'll be here next time I'm in town.

Kind of amazing that two of the better Mexican restaurants in Philly are right next to each other. This one's got good food, great margaritas and pretty good service. It's more standard than Lolita but also a bit cheaper. Really depends on what you're the mood for...

Delicious mexican food. The taste and quality of the food was really good. Ended up going back to the same place for that reason. Service was good but the music was a little too loud.

My friend and I first discovered El Vez when we decided to take a road trip from Northern New Jersey to Bensalem for Krispy Kreme donuts. We were in the mood for Mexican food for dinner, so we decided to head into Philadelphia. Our waitress raved about the guacamole, but I have never been a fan, so we opted for an open-faced quesadilla and the Tacos al Carbon (beef and chicken). The tacos came with guacamole, and we both tried it. That guacamole was the primary reason we decided to return on Wednesday night. When we arrived, we were told there would be an hour or longer wait. They took my cell phone number which gave us a chance to walk around. Our table became available much earlier when a reservation cancelled, and they held our table longer than they originally said in the text message. This time, we started off with the Tito Santana guacamole (mango, red bell peppers, jicama, habanero, and serrano chiles). My friend and I each ordered the carnitas tacos. My friend requested his without cilantro. Our waitress came back a little while later to see if we wanted the cilantro left out of the guacamole. Our first trip, my friend ordered a virgin Strawberry Margarita, and on our second, I ordered a pomegranate one. Both were pretty good- though I have no reference point for comparison (virgin or non-virgin). We also ordered the tres leches cake on our second visit, and it was absolutely amazing. It's a shame it's a 2 hour drive to get there because we'd probably eat there every week at the very least if we could.

The food is pretty decent but the decor is looking cheap and old. On busy nights the noise levels are insane. Better options for Mexican food around, and better ambiance lots of places. Fairly inexpensive is really the biggest plus. Not compelled to return.
