On September 11, 2001 at roughly 8:58 a.m. I was pulling into my drive after dropping my children of at school.  The radio 'announced' the first annual Emergency 9-1-1 day to honor 9-1-1 operators and the job they do everyday.  When I walked into my house and saw the t.v. it was 9:01 am.  The Today show was on (I had actually left it on) and thought I was looking at special effects for a new movie.  Then the second plain hit and life took on a whole new meaning...

Where were you that morning?

1 mile north of Ground Zero.  I had an office in one of the towers on the 13th floor and I was one of the lucky ones.
Thought I was going to die with the rest of the people.  Left the area and walked up to my apartment on Central Park South and stayed there till they opened up the city to exit and we all retreated to the Long Island home for about 10 days.

Happy Sunday Everybody!  Or Monday...still looking for work...haven't found any yet...but I did find my self-worth, my ambition,  my wonder, my appetite for life and finally, a shirt that still fits.  (I also found that cheesecake in the fridge--hope it wasn't for anything special--other than me).  Oh, I found this too.  Anyone know what it is?  So how's your day going?  What did you find?  =)

+Jesse Salinas  good luck on the Google SEO.  You should be on top!
+Wesley Davis it's humid here as well--like a big organic sauna!  Good luck with the pc.
+Tom Moncho   Good for you!  Reconnecting can be great.  And besides--you're great.  Who wouldn't want to reconnect with you.  Personally, I miss all of you.  But I'm confident good things will come our--all of us.

I have gotten so much advice and "what you oughtta do's" lately that it seems to be very noisy.  I smile and try to be polite but that isn't always easy to do.  Sometimes what we really need is quiet so we can listen.  I can't listen if I can't hear. Feel good sayings may sell books and plaques but if all they do is regurgitate words then what good are they?  Sometimes it is better to speak little and say a lot than to speak a lot and say nothing.  Didn't Teddy Roosevelt say something like that?  No, wait, that was "Speak softly and carry a big stick".   Well, that works too.

Have a great day everyone!

"Any idiot can be a father but it takes a real man to be a dad."   I don't remember where I heard that and I'm sure most of you have heard it too.  The truth is that not all 'dads' really get the chance to be a 'dad'.  For whatever reason life did not give them that privilege.  For most of my life I had only thought of my father as just that-my father.  I never lived with him so he never got the chance to be a dad.  I remember when things were good we went on weekend trips together (usually to New Jersey where he is from).  I loved those times.  When things weren't good I got a quick, supervised visit at the county courthouse.  Then it stopped all together.   It wasn't until I was pregnant with my first child that I saw him again.  And it was difficult, strained.  But we kept at it until it just got to be too much constantly trying to 'reclaim' something that we never had.   So for a while we stopped.  Then I grew up-not in years but in my thinking.  I suddenly realized I did not know my dad.  So I set about changing that.  I wanted to know the man as he really was.  Funny thing--I didn't realize just how much time I had wasted trying to make him into what I thought he should be.  (What a foolish woman)  I got a call one summer day from his wife saying he had lymphoma and about six months to live.   Suddenly, I got to know my dad very well.  I drove back and forth (about four hours)  three to four times a week.  There were a lot of over night trips so his wife could have some time for herself.  We got to really know each other for the first time.  The man had a very full, remarkable and often unusual life.  One of the last things he ever said to me was, "You are my heart".   He was very weak at that point so I had to listen close.  He used so much strength to say it but he was determined I heard him.   And I did...still do.
By that December he was gone.  It wasn't much time but I am very grateful for it.
So, to all you DADS out there-even those who may fall short from time to time but keep trying-Happy Fathers Day.   And to those who are a 'dad' person to someone (relation not needed) here's to you--THANK YOU.

My daughter is quite prolific.  Speaking as a mom, I am very proud.  Speaking as a fellow creative soul, I admire her and her work.  Here is another one of her blog post.  Enjoy!
