I love all the new technology and camera equipment that's being developed but sometimes it can be really overwhelming as it feels like there's a new camera that comes out every week and I don't know where to start!

To get around this I like to keep my camera kit as simple as possible so I can focus on making films and telling stories rather than spending all my time researching what camera, drone or stabiliser to get next. That gets boring and by no means makes you a better filmmaker! I thought I'd run through my essential filmmaking kit that I don't leave the house without!

I’ve been working with drones on and off for a few years now but at the end of last year I decided to take the leap and buy one of my own and I haven’t looked back! In this Vlog I talk about why I love making films with drones and a few top tips on getting those money shots!

I had a lot fun flying this guy in Kyrgyzstan & Kazakstan! It's now an essential part of my filmmaking kit. It was amazing having the opportunity to fly the drone in remote locations and villages and film from perspectives that no one has ever seen before. A lot of the locals were very excited to see the drone as it was their first time seeing one in action. When we were filming with it in one of the bigger cities in Kazakstan the drone got shot at with a gun and we were told to leave. We got the shot though and the drone lived to see another day!

Over the Christmas break I flew to Norway for a week to spend time with family and celebrate Xmas Norwegian style! I wanted to share my love of Norway with everyone so when I wasn't eating good food or enjoying the warm comforts of the fire I was outside in -15ºC (5ºF) filming and capturing what Norway means to me. It was a lot of fun to make this video and I also had the chance to use my new drone, the DJI Phantom 2 to get some epic aerial shots

Check out this weeks video blog! When I was 15 I made a short film about being lost on an island, I had big ambitions for this movie! I wanted it to win awards and be shown all around the world! But life is an adventure and a good adventure never goes to plan!

I'm a true believe that when limitations and problems occur creativity thrives. We're forced to do things differently and go against the norm in order to make it work. It's amazing what happy accidents can occur and often the end product is better because of it. Here's a project I put together where we had something go wrong at the last minute but we managed to push through and make something we're all really proud of.  Read all about it here: http://sebastiansolberg.com/ranger/

Introduction
I first picked up a video camera at age 9 to start making new installments of the Bond Franchise. Sadly they didn’t quite make the box office but I did catch the filmmaking bug. A few years went by and I continued making films, loving it more and more every year.

When I was 14, I won my first filmmaking award and was over the moon. At that stage I was determined to make at least three shorts a year and I knew then what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Straight after graduating from Saint Kentigern College in 2009 I started work as a camera operator filming extreme sports for Red Bull, Mizone, Nissan, Hyundai, and Billabong with lots of the content being screened on Sky Sports. A year later

I moved to England to work on Resistance, a feature film starring Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion, Welcome to the Punch) and Michael Sheen (Frost / Nixon, Underworld). For this I shot, scripted and directed mini documentaries charting the whole movie process from production to post. I’ve continued to do this on a variety of films including My Brother the devil which won best cinematography at the Sundance film competition and Jadoo who’s crew included Roger Pratt (Cinematographer on ’12 Monkey’s', ‘Troy’, Harry Potter’), Gareth Tandy (worked on the original Superman movie, Indiana Jones and Star Wars) and Oscar winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love).

Since moving to England I’ve been directing commercials, music videos, documentaries and short films. As well as England my work has also taken me to countries such as Qatar, Norway and France – I love traveling, working with talented and inspiring people and it’s a dream come true being able to do this on a daily bases.

I’ve just finished making my latest short ‘Modern Man’ which was shot by cinematographer Dale McCready (‘Merlin’, ‘Doctor Who)’ and stunt coordinated by Dani Biernat (‘Skyfall’, ‘Shaun of the Dead’). It was an amazing experience bringing the film to life and it’s had a great response from both industry professionals and the general public.
