Estela is where Uruguayan chef and co owner, Ignacio Mattos, serves up American tapas in Nolita. Does the name sound familiar? This restaurant blew up in the press due to President Obama's date night here. Not only is Estela perfect for dates and lingering with friends. POTUS ate here. Setting: Beautiful marbled bar, small tables with votives burning through the night. Great wine selection. The Food: Love, love, love their fried arroz de negro with squid. It was melody of textures and flavors. Crispy al dente rice with perfectly cooked squid. Crunchy toasted pine nuts. Sure, the dish does not look appealing. But this dish is my favorite on the menu. My friend could not stop raving about this! Scallops with greens, peas and lardo. The scallops were seared, and sweet. Greens blanched and cooked with lardo. The sauce was citrusy and the peas were sweet and crisp, tasted fresh off the vine. This was my second favorite dish. I can't wait to come back!

Great service Food was also good, although the fluke&urchin was a bit on the salty side and we had to return it. Otherwise great dining experience. Definitely try the squid ink rice (like a paella) it is divine.

We went here for Valentines day. We were visiting so we forgot to make a reservation, they had room at their bar for us, thank god! The foold was amazing and the bartender was really good too. We got just about everything on the menu. The best thing we got was the lamb ribs. My fiance got it and let me try it. It was so good, I had to order another plate for me. PS. The wine is very tasty too.

Decided to pop in early on Saturday morning for brunch without reservations since bar seats are usually available for walk-ins but they had a table available! Had the rare pleasure of the reality living up to the expectations. Definitely get the burrata, it's out of this world!
