Philly Women's Rugby needs your help to make our new jerseys one-of-a-kind. Inspired by PWRFC circa 1983, our next set of jerseys will pay homage to all of the past players, coaches, friends, and family that helped make us what we are today. That is why we are giving each of you the chance to put your name on one of our new jerseys. At Friends and Family Day we will hold a silent auction during which our supporters can bid on their favorite numbered jersey. The highest bidder for each jersey will have his or her name (or a friend's or favorite coach's name) printed on the front and the sleeve. See attached image for a mock up (not biased at all). The final set of jerseys will be ready by the fall season. Come out to a match this fall and see how your legacy continues on the arms of the current team!

On Friends and Family Day, bidding will start at $75 and open at 1:00pm and close at 4:00pm. However, you have the option to "buy-it-now" for $200 on www.pwrfc.org! Don't give anyone the chance to outbid you for your favorite number. The "buy-it-now" option opens at on April 25th and closes at 5:00pm on May 2nd. Please contact Kate at vp@pwrfc.org for more information.

Philadelphia Women’s Rugby is pleased to announce that Bob Weir will continue as the team’s head coach for the 2013 seasons. Bob has been with Philly through three Fall seasons and the team continually improves each year under his leadership. In 2012, Bob took PWRFC to both the sevens and fifteens national championships. First, Philly earned a spot at the sevens nationals as MARFU’s 4th seed. At the championship, the team competed in the shield final and defeated Belmont Shore to win the shield. The fall 15s season was even more of an excitement. After losing their first two games, Philly surprised everyone by winning the next four and securing a spot at their second championship for the year. At nationals, Philly started out the first round by defeating the defending champion Chicago North Shore in overtime. Philly finished the tournament as one of the top 4 Division I teams. With Weir’s help, the team is looking forward to even bigger things. Bob has said “2013 is our year!”

Bob Weir has been a part of the Eastern Penn rugby community for 40 years since he started playing at West Chester University in 1973. He is currently one of the most experienced rugby coaches in the area. In addition to coaching PWRFC, he is the head coach of the MARFU Senior Women 15s All Stars. Previously he has coached Wilmington RFC, the U-19 Wilmington Colts, the U-19 Delaware boys select side, the Philadelphia-Whitemarsh Super League team and the Middletown High School Boys team. He is an International Rugby Board (IRB) Coach Educator and Trainer, a Coach Development Course Leader for the USA Rugby Coaching Development Program and a graduate of USA Rugby’s first Advanced Coaching Course in Glendale.

Philly Women are thrilled to have Bob back for another year. His enthusiastic and inclusive coaching style and never-ending motivational quotes are valued by the team. Captain Emily Tunney says, “We couldn’t ask for a most qualified, enthusiastic, or inspiring coach. I am honored to play for Bob and looking forward to another successful year.” The team starts training for the Spring season in March.

Philadelphia Women's Rugby Club is sad to announce we will not be hosting Pumpkinfest in 2012. Since the restructuring of women's club rugby in 2006 and the advent of the WPL in 2009, the nature of Pumpkinfest has transformed over the years. Unfortunately, PWRFC has determined that a women's 15s tournament in Fall 2012 is not feasible. The club will reassess the goals of and the need for a Fall 15s tournament and will make a judgement on Fall 2013 in the coming months.
