Dear LazyPlus,

Does anyone know if the #raspberrypi  can output a 16 bit analog signal (+/- 10V)?  I'm guessing the answer is no, but if the answer is yes, my life just got much cheaper and easier...

Sound cards are generally AC-coupled, so they can't hold a steady DC level - you can modify one, or use an I2C or SPI DAC chip.

This new locations feature they are using to replace latitude is crap... Why does +Google insist on destroying all the products I like and, you know, use?

The "Share only city level location" option is gone. That sucks. #latitute

a-freaking-men. I wish that publishing negative data were accepted and encouraged - it would save scientists so much time!

Getting axed by your labmate really puts the "perish" in "publish or perish".

Yeah, let's just do away with peer review.  Fantastic idea.

ugh... useful research is not groundbreaking... it's iterative. And the really important basic research isn't going to look "important for national security" for 20 years. Whatever the cause, the effect is our countries government is insanely short sited and clueless.

This also sets a precedent, particularly the "political science" part for highly politically driven funding. If this goes much farther I'll be in favor of shutting down NSF entirely.

Dear Facebook: Please release an RSS reader so Google brings back Google Reader.

Facebook's idea of an RSS-reader involves news-apps that require a lot of permissions to access information about you and their stupid algo deciding which news are relevant to you in exchange.

#googleReader is the only page, aside from my email, that I have open all the time. It's how I keep up with science journals, news, and blogs.

Story
Tagline
Physical chemist and all around geek.
Introduction
I'm a physical chemist at UNC Chapel Hill currently working on my PhD in ultrafast spectroscopy.

I tend to post on science, politics, and culture, and I am very opinionated.  That being said, I do still try to have an open mind, and am more interested in debate than argument.
Bragging rights
I get paid to play with lasers, and have participated in Hangouts with Randall Munroe AND Phil Plait :-D!
