Johnny’s is a distinctly upscale steakhouse complemented with a rich Italian background featuring traditional and innovative items and a superior wine list. The classic interior is reminiscent of the supper clubs of yesteryear. The sophisticated design of the restaurant is welcoming and warm; the illuminated lighting creates an air of mystique and privacy. The classic sounds of Sinatra, Dean and Sammy Davis, Jr. as well as contemporary crooners like Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr. surround the restaurant and infuse an aura and rhythm all of its own.

A glowing neon Blue Bar™ invites you for cocktails served on the custom granite bar or to relax on soft seating in the lounge. Enjoy classic martinis, specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list, all of which sets Johnny’s stage presence. Johnny’s offers lunch, dinner, and breakfast in hotel adjournment settings.

Heavy velvet draperies not only add to the aura but create private dining areas within the restaurant. With new-fashioned luxuries and old-fashioned service and hospitality, Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse brings the Rat pack era to the 21st Century.

Johnny's Italian Steakhouse is now offering franchise opportunities to select operators.

Went there at 7, which is prime time. Was told it was an hour wait. No biggie wanted to try their prime rib. Had a Martini and waited. Martini was great and within 15 minutes we were seated. Had the 16 oz prime rib. Best in Desmoines area, by far. I will be back.

TERRIBLE SERVICE... we went a few years ago after hearing good things and had very slow service with less then stellar food so needless to say we were not eager to go back. Well we decided recently to try again since it had been awhile and still heard good things...TERRIBLE SERVICE again! So bad that we never even had a member of the wait staff visit our table at all in the twenty minutes we sat there, no drink order, no water. We were given attitude when we got there for not having a reservation (it wasn't busy and it was a Sunday early evening). I will NEVER try this place again. No one even bothered to ask us anything as we walked out. Big Disappointment.

Meredith - Thank you for your review. I am sorry that your experience at West Des Moines was disappointing and not a typical Johnny's experience. We strive for 100% guest satisfaction and it is apparent we let you down and that is on us. Please contact me at acoffman@hoari.com to discuss further. Thank you Anne Coffman, Brand Manager, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse.

I loved Johnnie's Steak House. The four rating has more to do with the price compared to other places in West Des Moines. It's a little pricier but I'll still stop back a few more times. I used to not like having a sauce with my steak, but eating here changed mind. I'm not sure what it was, but it was divine. Go here, especially if you are planning on eating in the WDM area.

I was expecting much better especially for the atmosphere and price. I have been here twice and both times the food was so-so and the place was not very busy. I'm sure most of their clientele are business travelers who are staying in the hotel and don't feel like venturing out. I tired the cedar plank salmon and found it to be kind of rubbery. I also had a steak which was good but someone with me got a "medium-rare" steak with no red or even pink. Eat here if you are stuck in the hotel but otherwise head out. There are many great restaurants in the area.

Food (steak and fish) was ok, not impressed with the sides. Baked potato was cooked but room temp, had to ask for butter twice which when arrived was nearly frozen. Family style salads ? Never brought enough initially and had to bring more later , which was too late not to mention never enough dressing on any of it. Server was stressed out big time ( not his fault) having to make excuses for bartenders (drinks coming late) and food not being cooked correctly. Very nice upscale decor but need to hire more people to work Saturday nights. This was tough not to give 4 starts.....

We sat outside. It was hot but we like it that way. Suggest they put up a screen of some sort to help block the Sun but in any event, we enjoyed sitting outside to dine. When we were seated, we were handed menus. By the time our waitress arrived, we knew we wanted Chicken Parmesan, which we shared. I also ordered an additional baked potato. Our waitress brought water to the table promptly and the glasses were large which is good because we always drink lots of water. She also brought some fresh bread that was just wonderful. Our food arrived and it was delicious. Very satisfied. While we were eating, the fellow that seemed to be in charge of the dining area brought more water and a tea refill for my friend. $21. What a great dinner! Thank you.

Let Johnny's take you somewhere delicious with Cedar Plank Salmon. Roasted on a cedar plank, glazed with apricot butter. Served with our family-style house salad and fresh baked focaccia bread.
