Between awake and asleep, between alive and dead, between existing and not... there is floating. The most relaxing thing you can imagine can be experienced in a comfortable and very safe feeling environment at Silver Essence. I just got back from my first session and I still feel light as a feather while also being comfortably jello-y. The woman who runs the place is very friendly and the sessions are not very expensive especially given that there is a points system and you can get money off of your next visit. The good it does you mentally and physically is well worth double.

I had a horrible experience here. I bought a deal through groupon and wanted to try it out as a birthday treat to myself. There was one woman working on a Saturday afternoon and she really didn't seem like she wanted to be working. The only thing I was told was to shower before getting in. I wasn't given any ear plugs so I had water in my ears for weeks after. I got the salt water in my eyes and it burned really really bad. I didn't have a moist towel with me in the pool (it was my first time, I didn't even think about it, and nobody told me) so I stumbled out of the floating pool in the dark and tripped into the shower trying to feel for the knobs to get some fresh water with my burning eyes closed. I contemplated leaving at this point but felt determined to try to get some relaxation out of this session. When I did leave I said thank you to the woman who was working. She didn't even acknowledge me. So i stepped out into the freezing winter weather with very wet hair. No hair dryer was offered. Nothing was offered. I Seriously regretted even saying thank you.

I got the "groupon treatment" here. You know what i'm talking about. When everyone is all sunshine and roses until that coupon comes out. I was greeted by the proprietor with " you must be my 2pm with a Living Social". I'm typically accustomed to being greeted by name and it turn being introduced. When I told her this was my first time at a float spa and asked her to describe it she said " most of my clients find it extremely relaxing". She was thorough with her explanation of body preparation re: showering, vaseline, earplugs. I found the experience to be somewhat relaxing, however, I found the water to be a bit cool, and it made my,um, upper torso region a bit uncomfortable. I believe she specifically said the water should be 96 degrees but i could be mistaken. On my way out I received a smile but no offer of water and was not asked how i enjoyed my treatment or if i'd like to book a future appointment. I had hoped to reduce my monthly spa budget by floating and cutting down on massages, but I'd rather get the tlc than save a few dollars. I"m tempted to suggest the treatment to a friend with rhumatoid arthritis and see how she is treated with full price service. i really don't get it. I had dog hair on my coat, but otherwise fall within what a williamsville spa regular would look like...

I had an opportunity to experience a float session and I absolutely LOVED it. The spa was warm and inviting, the staff made me feel relaxed and comfortable and it was truely a Zen experience. I didn't see any light whatsoever - it was totally pitch dark and quiet. It was a absolutely unique opportunity to shut out the world, clear the clutter, chaos and constant chatter going on in the mind. If you enjoy that calm, relaxed feeling you get after doing a meditation session, you will love this. The warm water, floating experience, total silence and darkness allows you to go one step beyond. As a matter of fact - I just went back to their website to purchase gift certificates for some friends for Christmas. I can't think of a better gift! If your open to new experiences and want to try something totally unique I highly recommend trying a floating session!
