Our party of four, Mom, Dad, eighteen year old and thirteen year old, were visiting the Kenai Peninsula in late June 2017. The party was split with the two girls wanting to nature watch and the boys wanting to try their hand at salmon fishing. One call to the Drifters Lodge and all of our needs were met. The staff at Drifters was spot on, from the initial phone call to book the trip, to being dropped off at the end of the excursion. Our son caught his first salmon with the help of his talented guide (as well as a close encounter with a juvenile brown bear on the trail) in addition he and my husband learned a lot from their guide about the Russian River and the balance it plays in the salmon fishery. They were all beams when they returned, they kept one fish for dinner and it was truly deli...

Mary said ""flyfishing?!? I don't know how to fly fish!" And here's the result -- thanks to a wonderful Upper Kenai trip with Evan -- very knowledgeable, courteous, a patient instructor and an all-around pleasure on the river. Thanks, Evan! Once again we're reminded of why we look to Drifter's Lodge for our fall rainbow trips.

Our guide was fantastic and worked really hard for us so we could catch fish. Not every day can be like the one we had, but I wish they could! Austen did great, he was the only guide on the river that wasn't using an engine of any kind. Pure rowing power! It was a slow start on the fish, but a gorgeous day and Austen was super informative about spawning behaviors of all different types of fish. We had an amazing day and caught 7 types of fish; Red, Pink, Silver and King Salmon, Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden Char, and a Whitefish. Pretty sure that's all types of fish in the Kenai River! It was an amazing day and Austen worked it hard and made it really special. The folks at the Lodge were wonderful and very helpful. Thank you so much for a day we will never forget!

It was the best time I've had on the kenai peninsula so far. I would definitely go again. I wanted the ride to last longer. And Aaron was the best captain. I'll be back next year. I love Alaska!

This was the best guided fishing trip we have encountered. From them picking us up to bringing us back, it was truely a great trip. We did a half day wade fishing for trout and dollies, Evan was our guide and he went way above what we could have expected, from putting us on the fish to getting the bears to come out for photos. ?????

Incredible staff top to bottom. We stayed in the Russian House. Very nice and comfortable and GREAT views. Fishing and rafting were incredible with outstanding guides. 5 star service. Great expanded continental breakfast in the morning and if they provide you lunch for your excursion be prepared for a lot of food.

This was my first trip to Alaska, so I can't compare Drifter's to other lodges. That said, this place is clearly a gem. The setting, on a stunning corner of the Kenai River, is beyond compare. The lodgings -- simple and spare as a real fishing lodge should be, but with just enough amenities to be comfortable (incl. fabulous beds) -- are just right. Several of the restaurants in the area, small as it is -- are absolutely top-notch. And the staff could not be nicer, more available, more helpful, or more knowledgeable. (Although be warned, some of the guides are a bit too chatty, so tell them up front if you prefer a quiet day.) All in all, a very well-run establishment. My congratulations to Bob, the owner, who, I learned, goes to extra lengths (and expense) to keep his staff happy. Smart move.

I was part of a group of eight people that spent two nights at Kenai River Drifter's Lodge, one day of fly-out silver salmon fishing on Wednesday, August 23, at Kustatan River and one day of drift fishing on Thursday, August 24, on the Kenai River for rainbows, Dolly Varden, and silver salmon. Drifter's Lodge arranged the entire trip, but the fly-out portion was done by High Adventure Air Charter and I'll review them separately. I fish the Kenai River a lot, stay at Drifter's Lodge at least a couple times each summer, and fish with their guides once or twice each season. Drifter's Lodge is, in my opinion, hands down the best full-service lodge on the river. The cabins are right on the river and comfortable. Every night there is a bonfire around which you can sit and visit with other guests from all over the world and share fishing stories.
I was tasked with organizing this trip for eight executives only a couple months in advance, which by Alaska standards is "last minute," and the staff was very helpful in providing accommodations for everyone and arranging the fishing trips. Eric, Heather, and Andy were particularly helpful when we had to make some last-minute changes because of people being unable to make the trip.
The float trip on Thursday was marred by weather that didn't cooperate with us very well, but the fishing was still good. The only thing that keeps this review from being a "5" is the fact that our fishing guide was a little inexperienced and had difficulty managing the boat and keeping it straight, even when we were out of the wind. Had it been windy the entire day I would have totally cut him some slack, but it wasn't and I'm not. I ended up pulling my line out of the water and taking a nap because I couldn't fish with the way the boat was being handled. The folks in the other boat were interested in catching some silver salmon and the guide knew just where to go to find them.
Drifter's Lodge is a great place to stay and is staffed with great people to help plan for a very memorable floating and fishing experience! They have an experienced staff of fishing guides and can accommodate full-day, half-day, and walk-in trips on the Russian River. They did a wonderful job of coordinating the fly-out portion of our trip. They can also arrange to have your catch processed and shipped home.
