Every year around this time I engage in a quixotic effort to improve the results of the major local paper's annual Best Of poll. It doesn't matter where you live. Anyone can help. It takes just a few minutes to do. But I'm asking for something else too. As much as I need your vote, I also need your friends/family/colleagues to vote too. Please help spread the word.

And if you do, maybe this year I can live in a town that doesn't proclaim Subway to be its best sandwich. Please?

This was a blog post written by a reader of the FUSSYlittleBLOG. It made me glad to see that over time I was able to win over someone who found me annoying at first. Funny story, same thing happened with my wife. She broke up with me a long time ago because all I did was talk about food (but eventually came around).

Have you been keeping up with the Tournament of Pizza? The pepperoni round is over, and I recap some of my impressions from behind the scenes. This includes the name of the pizzeria that made the only pepperoni slice that I would actually eat of my own free will.

There are just over six hours left to vote in this cocktail poll on the widest read food blog in the region. The only true cocktail on the list is running a distant second (although doing much better thanks to the help of my readers). If you haven't voted yet, please consider taking two minutes to help me improve the cocktail culture of Albany (regardless of where you live). Thank you.

Dang. Gap in my ability to check with G+ reliably meant I missed this. I'd have backed you up, grudgingly, because all the contestants other than the DB favorite were clearly WAY worse. (Appletini. Shudder. The very concept is repellent to me.) But except for a certain Bloody Mary recipe that I treasure and reserve for special occasions, the only cocktail I really like is whiskey + ice... which is bogus, I know, but not much less of a cocktail than the [shudder] Appletini.

Wine in an ammunition box. It's an appropriate metaphor for those who wish to gun down the snobbish opinions that would suggest wine-in-a-box is beneath them. This is some serious wine, and it's available in a seriously unorthodox form. Box wine is full of promise, and this company is showing Americans its full potential.

I'm encouraged because on its fourth day without any other major media support, the FUSSYlittleBALLOT received more page views today than yesterday. Even more notable, it is doing significantly more traffic today than my fresh post from this morning.

This is the kind of dull traffic data I don't usually share. Figure G+ is a good place to put it. I find it interesting, and I hope that it makes you curious enough to check out what this whole FUSSYlittleBALLOT thing is all about.

Because regardless of where you live, you can spend five minutes, fill out an online survey for my big local paper, and help me change Albany for the better. Please? Thanks.

Thanks. I used your list to fill in spots I had nothing or no good opinion.

The fact that nobody has commented yet on this All Over Albany post implies one of two things.
1) It's way too long, and nobody bothered to read it.
2) Everyone agrees with the outcome of every showdown.

I mean, the eggplant sandwich beat the Boston Shake. Ice cream lost to eggplant. There has to be someone out there who thinks that this is a travesty of justice. Where are those people who are questioning my judgement for putting coffee over local/seasonal/organic?

Seriously, I'm outraged there isn't more outrage.

I don't know how G+ works still, but you are certainly invited to the Tour de Egg Sandwich which is firming up as we speak. I hope to post about it this week on the FLB. It would be great to have you along.

So last night I wrote two mega rants on the interwebs and then another meta rant to encapsulate the first two. Sound like I have a problem? It takes a special kind of person to get all worked up about cheese buying options in Albany, only to be equally distraught when a local grocer encourages people to buy BPA lined cans to support the fight against breast cancer.

YES! YES! YES!

I haven't been this excited about something TV related in a long time. Could this possibly turn into the one show I watch live (besides the Super Bowl)?

Also psyched. Right now I'm stuck trying to imagine Will Arnett's character in Up All Night is G.O.B. He did a bit with a parachute the last show that made me hum "The Final Countdown"

Maybe I use G+ as my weekly highlight reel. For example, in the past seven days, people were most captivated by this post on the FLB. Or maybe this is the wrong approach. Hey, that's the fun with social media. You try something, and if that doesn't work, you try something else. Kinda like Facebook. Or Netflix.

I know what is good.
Introduction
Being fussy is different than being a snob.

A snob will look down their nose at something simply because of what it is:
- Wine that costs less than $5 a bottle.
- Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
- Diners

A fussy person will just insist that whatever it is, it is the best of its kind that it can be, and will not settle for less.  Sometimes the line can get a little fuzzy.  And if you want to think of me as a snob, I can live with that.

But I do know what is good.
