UW Carbone researchers are giving cancer cells radiation combined with drugs that limit their ability to recover from radiation damage, in hopes that this double hit of radiation and drugs will lead to better patient outcomes at lower radiation doses.

Two words that should never go together are 'childhood' and 'cancer.'

Mario Otto, American Family Children's Hospital pediatric oncologist and UW Carbone researcher, was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from Hyundai Hope on Wheels! Dr. Otto conducts his research on our pediatric oncology research floor, where these funds will be used to produce pre-clinical research on a small-molecule drug for solid tumor cancers in children.
