Let the wind always catch your sails! Stand in the way of the wind and let it go! And if it's dead calm, stir it up! Find the spirit!

The ultimate field trip ... to a new life. Come along and discover with us -- Dave and me, our daughters, family, friends -- insights that come as we steer out into open water, sailing against the wind (I hope), but feel unmoored.

Join me as I gear up here for a new burst of blogging energy... sharing this journey, and our transition into a new season ...of life together (though it feels vaguely familiar from 40 years ago); of life in miniature (materially) as we are letting go... of stuff -- but not life!

That is the temptation, to feel that they are one and the same.

Dave and I are downsizing, that is DOWNSIZING in every way but spirit. From 4000 sq. ft. to under 1200. Daunting. Exhilarating.

No home to own and worry about. A 'svelte' 'resort' lifestyle, all on one floor, a porch with gorgeous mountains outside - including Long's Peak, and we're right on a golf course. I will use it.

But this journey is one of grief and, for me, a sense of retrenchment, of giving in, to the reality of Parkinson's.

But we are looking to enlarge -- our joy, our fun together, our discoveries, and even our 'footprints' in serving and giving, in creating and generating. From a small place, we can still have a big voice, and make a significant impact for good.

Let's sail along and see how this goes...

Stir up your spirit! Come along!
The blogs are back, as one. Palm Tree in Poland has so much history, I want to keep it as a resource for you, and it is the primary name for the ongoing blogging. It is still relevant, instructive. And moves forward now.. Light Gets was especially big during the run-up to publication of 'my' book, about Traumatic Brain Injury in the Chicken Soup series. It had the nom de plume, Anneli Norrland, as author. That's me.

The blog is as current as this moment in time. And - please note - all references to past events are RELEVANT as cautionary tales, especially this one.

And, there are "FIELD TRIPS FOR GROWN UPS" coming soon. A book commissioned for anyone who needs just a jump start figuring out how to "stir up your spirit! and do "What makes your spirit come alive," there will be 365 brainstorms, destinations, events, places, activities to help you make the very most of your precious free time and the most of what Colorado has to offer. A print, illustrated version is headed to a publisher and an online eco-friendly version is due to appear too.

I'm just home from a loooooong trip, including the Arctic where I saw the Midnight Sun BE the Midnight Sun. 40 degrees or so up in the sky at midnight, and reflecting off a lake. Musing on the various meanings I'm mining from that journey are part of the mix.

What does it take, what does it mean to be married for forty years? We celebrated our 40th Anniversary in Maine and Minneapolis, with family and dear friends! Musing on marriage - expect that too. And the family that just overwhelms my heart and mind. Where are they? Where are they headed? And how did Miracle become a part of us?

Music is the fuel that runs my engine. I make music, listen all the time, sing along, and even compose. Where does that come from?

A lot to cover. Because life expands as we live and breathe in and out, as surely as our lungs do. I've been there, done a lot of 'that' and believe it is not for nothing. Nothing need be wasted. Or thrown away. From the KGB to the DNC, from feedlots and 'the smell of money' to the sweet cloudberries of an Arctic forest, from the Maria Magdalena that crossed an ocean to bring my grandmother to America, to Wally, the faithful Forester that conquered the Al-Can and took my doctor daughter to Anchorage, from yoga and beauty to airlifts and detours... and from our plot of suburbia to city streets I love, there comes a lot to learn, to ponder, and to push.

Colorado has very weird weather. And its lakes and valleys can create their own winds. In this bizarre time in America, I believe it is time for us to create our own weather, as a fire does in burning. A fire of passion for justice and mercy, for a Midnight Sun of our own that goes not down but reflects a glow among us, for winds that speed toward faith and faithfulness to what we know: the power of love.

The frenzied fervor of fear has been duly stirred up around us. But let us not let it seize us. The hate, hatred we hear comes inspired by an impulse prompted only by the Evil One. Let us resist it with all our might.

The merciful winds of the Spirit are blowing, and we all need to get in their path and let them move us along. Stir up your spirit! Let's go!
