This week's #TBT from OregonLive
Looking through decades of back to school ads and photos, it's clear that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Going back to at least the mid-1940s, there has always been a must-have outfit, gadget, lunchbox or piece of stationary as the school year approached.

This week's #TBT from Oregon Live.
With the lazy, deep-fried, watch-where-you-step, hey-I-remember-that-1980s-band days of the 150th Oregon State Fair approaching, this is probably as good a time as any to take a ride in a time-traveling Zipper cage.

Beautiful hotel and location. Staff was nice and helpful. Room was not thoroughly cleaned though upon arrival. Soap and shampoo still in tub from previous occupant. Also coffee maker was full of old coffee. Kind of made me think what else wasn't cleaned. Still give it 4 stars though because all else was great. The restaurant food was delicious.

I stayed here 2 nights with my three children. Overall, the hotel was very nice. Our room was clean and so was the pool and hot tub. The bathroom was very large which was particularly nice for bathing two small children. The bed was too soft for me, but I prefer a very firm bed. The only thing I did not like was that our room was at daylight basement level. The only concern I had was the old railings on the walk to the pool do not meet modern standards and I was afraid my youngest was going to fall right through them.

Terrible. Asked for ground floor when I reserved room and didn't get it. Instead was put on 4th floor next to interstate highway 5. It was loud. Forgot my iPhone charger. Called literally 10 minutes after leaving and asked for them to send it. They didn't do it. Water leak outside my room in the ceiling so I had to walk around a bucket of water. Felt this place was run down and dirty. Will never stay in any hotel associated with this company.

Debbie, Thank you for the feedback from your recent stay with us and I am sorry there was not a first floor room available for you, The hotel does everything possible to make sure we accommodate guest request for specific room locations and unfortunately at times due to availability and occupancy we have limited options, There was a water leak in the area of your room that our staff was able to identify and repair and Please accept my apology if this left you with a bad impression of our hotel. Upon check in they said "we have one room left" even though we made our reservation 2 months in advance (made it sound like we were lucky). Several light bulbs not working, fan in bathroom not working, went to plug lamp in and almost got electrocuted, there were bare prongs exposed. They charge for the continental breakfast. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a hotel in Portland.

Walking into this hotel, you will be happy with the grand entrance and friendly well trained desk workers. Its large , friendly and exciting as you get to your room and enjoy the view (if you get a view room,) and the comfortable bed. You can eat at the onsite restaurant and party at the little party room. Swim in the average sized pool and enjoy views that are simply wonderful looking over the bridge and river. For my stay, I did all the above for 2 nights. And when I checked out and reflected over my room/food bill, I was not as happy as I originally thought. I paid just short of 700 bucks and I dont feel that I got what I paid for. My room was clean and quality, but it was really just an average room that I could have gotten at an average hotel for a fraction of the cost. My room size was only acceptable. The hallway noise was very loud due to the lack of separation between the room and the hall. Airplanes are flying over every few minutes. The loading dock is in courtyard, so expect to see and hear all that goes on in there. The restaurant was very overpriced and understaffed. And the tv was a bit small for my bad vision. If my bill were lower, I would rate this place 5 stars, but I see this place basically as an overpriced Motel 8 with a good view. And my only real complaint was the hallway noise., so I am not trying to scare others away, but just sharing my feelings on the cost.

This is ok place. It's old and sometimes smelly. Not upscale. But they in the nice place - near the river. But if you get room near highway, it's not that great...

Made me wait two hours to check in when rooms were ready. Itchy room, smelled, loud, and was freezing since they left the ac on low. I could not sleep in one of the beds since had bed bugs. Fortunately I had two. Will not stay here again.

Overwhelmingly gross smell in room and on bed sheets, super uncomfortable beds, disgustingly dirty pool, unfriendly, unhelpful staff. Do not stay here. Horrible experience.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Cody, I am very disappointed in the issues you experienced and I will follow up with my Housekeeping staff to address the room and sheet smell as that is an uncommon comment we do not receive very often, The hotel has oversized pillow top mattresses and they are a little soft for some guests, We also do a check of the pool every 2 hours for proper chemical balance and cleanliness and those results are logged daily, I will follow up with this also, We strive to exceed our guests' expectations in all that we do and it is clear that in this case we failed. Please accept my apology. We appreciate the feedback. Rod Russell General Manager
