+Grace Rogers Even the English spoken at the time would be incomprehensible to us. Indeed, I think Cromwell might as well speak Chinese to us as his real tongue. Yet, his written word is instantly recognizable. It is mostly because we incorporate foreign invader's words into our language that it has become so powerful.
Powerful enough to win WWII, in fact.
At some point in my long life, I learned that we had over 35,000 words in our language, while most other tongues have less than 10,000. "Freo", in Spanish, means cold, ice, sleet, frost, snow, chills, etc. Anything cold, in fact. I have always thought how most of England's adversaries might have been merely hamstrung by their clumsy orders to "Fire", a wonderful English word that does not take several syllables to say in the heat of battle. Also, to "tack" a ship in English compares to "let us put it in God's hands" in French. I'm sure at least a few shipwrecks have been caused by that!
Language informs the mind, which makes it flower. There is a reason the World speaks English more and more every day. Because we incorporate their words because we simply find them a useful tool.
Interesting, yes?
But your answer is "no". Because he was Norse by way of France. He had no English in him. He was simply an invader. A Norse/French invader.

I love Dave Van Ronk, and it's good to see him modernly recognized. :)

It's not really cool to openly say people suck at singing, especially when they don't. Also, in the late 1800s there were a lot of young children running around the streets of France with no parents. With no birth control and so many prostitutes, lots of women would end up dumping their kids after they turned three or so.

It's a joke video. Don't watch it if you can't take jokes. Easy
