What Happens During Your Daughter's First Gynecology Exam?

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology suggest that girls first start their gynecology care while they are in their early teens, somewhere between the ages of 13 and 15. The first gynecology appointment is important because it allows your daughter to address any issues (heavy bleeding, abnormal periods), but it also gives her a chance to ask questions about her body. Even better – starting early allows her to develop the healthy habit of preventive care.

The Length of the Average Period: What's Normal?

Is your period abnormal? To determine if your period is normal or abnormal, your gynecologist will ask you a few questions:
• How many days you bleed (average is around 5)
• How many days each cycle is (average is 21-35)
• Is there any bleeding between periods?

If you notice that your period falls outside of these ranges (or if your period is very painful), it's a good idea to check in with your gynecologist.

Friendly affection doesn’t have to be so sugar-coated! Rather than giving boxes of chocolates or sugary treats to your loved ones, try gifting heart healthy options, like fresh fruits. Spread the love this Valentine’s Day by celebrating heart health and vitality.

Don't Brush Off These Signs of Uterine Fibroids
(http://ow.ly/GKc530neZva)

It's easy to brush off lower back pain as the result of lifting improperly or standing on your feet all day. However, if your lower back constantly hurts, it's worth considering if an underlying condition is affecting your back. Uterine fibroids can cause back pain as well as heavy periods, pain during sex, and even constipation. Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors, and your doctor may be able to remove them if they are interfering with your quality of life.

What Causes Vaginal Dryness?

Vaginal dryness is a common complaint among women going through menopause, but it can also occur in women who are not yet in menopause. You may experience vaginal dryness during breastfeeding, as a side effect of certain medications, and lack of foreplay before intercourse. Regardless of what causes your vaginal dryness, you don't have to accept it as the status quo. Talk to your gynecologist about your treatment options.
