Dean's Corner – Strawberry Forks

During the age of elegant dining, a period roughly defined as the decade or two before and after the turn of the century in 1900, very specialized objects were created for use and service on fine dining tables. Special pieces of china and sterling silver were crafted for almost anything one could imagine eating – there were spoons for jam, spoons for macaroni, forks for sardines, and even forks for strawberries. Fresh & Clean!

We often post photos that feature layers of patterns with multiple colors and motifs—the goal being to make a statement with a table setting. But if your style is clean with simple lines, you can make an impact on your table as well. Crisp white patterns with platinum trim set a beautifully elegant table. Adding silver items to the table elevates the look for a formal yet fresh aesthetic. For today’s post, our designers chose several items found in our Retail Store that illustrate how refreshing the cool hues of silver and blue are in a table setting.

Museum Feature - Stieff Rose

This week from our museum we’re featuring a gorgeous sterling silver tea ball in the “Stieff Rose” pattern by Stieff Silver. Prior to the invention of paper tea bags, ‘tea balls’ (sometimes called tea eggs) provided a convenient way to make individual cups of tea, eliminating the need to dirty teapots and tea strainers. Most tea balls (like the one in our museum) included a chain to easily remove the ball once the loose tea inside had brewed to the desired strength. To learn more click the link below:

Our talented designers Keith Winkler and John Griffith presented topics that included seasonal blended place settings, floral arranging, centerpieces, and etiquette of the English afternoon tea. The event was chock full of decorating tips and tablescape ideas for spring and the upcoming Easter holiday. Browse our photos for ideas and inspiration!
