PAL Saves Kids

A child died yesterday from being locked in a car from heat stroke. This is completely preventatable. Pop-A-Lock, founded in 1991 by law enforcement officers, developed a FREE program that rescues children and pets in locked vehicles 24/7. Since the program began, thousands of children have been rescued from across the U.S. at no charge to families or caregivers.

Pain Management:


People with chronic pain often turn to massage therapy to help naturally improve their quality of life. Notes Tiffany Field, Ph.D., director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida:
"Most people go to massage therapists to reduce pain. There's a release of serotonin, which is the body's natural production of anti-pain chemicals. Additionally, an aggravating factor in pain syndromes can be a lack of deep, restorative sleep. Massage is very effective at increasing deep sleep. With more deep sleep, you have less pain."


Fibromyalgia and arthritis are two chronic pain syndromes that can be positively impacted by massage therapy. In a study of massage therapy for knee osteoarthritis, a group receiving massage therapy for the pain showed significant improvement in pain, stiffness and physical function. They increased their range of motion and reduced the time it took them to walk 50 feet.

In another study, people with arthritis in their wrist and hand reported less pain and greater grip strength after massage therapy. They also had lower anxiety and depressed mood scores.


For people looking to naturally manage their chronic pain, massage therapy can improve quality of life by impacting mood as well as manage the pain and other benefits. Beat the Summer Stress: 5 Tips for a Healthy Summer

With an increase in activities, hotter days and the kids home from school is can be easy to put your health on the back burner. Enjoy your summer and stay healthy and active with these tips.

1. Keep hydrated
Water is essential for many different parts of your health and body. Sip water throughout the day, if you are bored with “plain” water, add some fruit or enjoy sparkling water. Avoid soda and other highly sugared iced teas and lemonades.

2. Protect your skin
Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin against UVA/UVB rays. Especially when outdoors in the heat of the day, it is extremely important to make sure you have sunscreen and reapply often. Make sure to wear breathable, lightweight clothing to help prevent heat stroke.

3. Enjoy family time
Now that the kids are home and the sun is out longer, it is a great time for family fun. Take a hike or nature walk along the river. Do an art project instead of just allowing them to watch TV all day. Plant a garden together and enjoy the flavor of homegrown vegetables because they will more likely eat what they harvest.

4. Head outdoors
With nice weather, it is the perfect time to explore your surroundings! Go visit a place you have never been, BBQ and eat dinner outside, take a road trip to the Bay, spend the day at the park, do yard work, or have a picnic lunch on the lawn.

5. Slow down
With the chaos of summer vacation, you might be feeling frazzled, stressed or just exhausted. Make sure to take some time to relax and enjoy. Make some time for yourself enjoying activities you love. This can be reading a new book in the shade or booking an extra massage at Hope Wellness.
