sounds awesome! having lived through 9/11 in nyc, phones were/are definitely a lifeline to the outside world (fun fact: got my first cellphone on 9/10/01).
am glad to hear that bicycle powered pumps are used for water removal, with the side benefit of phones being recharged. someone somewhere pointed out how having access to phones recharging is a "first world" luxury in the wake of the destruction caused by hurricane sandy, and i'm inclined to agree.
