I was there over Christmas in 2015. I had heard rave reviews growing up in South Bend for years, but under new management in 2015, I was not impressed at all. Problems: The restaurant was very difficult to find at night. The parking lot was pitch black and there were no signs telling people to walk to the front of the building. Confusing and no lights. This place did not have a menu online. I asked the owner, he said it was done on purpose to limit competition. I didn't expect entrees to be $50+. That was too much for South Bend. I come from a large city and can get comparable items downtown for $26-32. Complimentary app was a joke. Literally 2 slices of a tiny pickle similar to a CFA sandwich and a tiny crostini that was very greasy with liver pattee. Gross. Also, no warm bread until we asked, took about 30 minutes. The Steak Diane was good, but it was cold. We should have complained about it, but we were frustrated enough. The carrots were very undercooked. Potatoes were good, but cold again. The owner was smug and condescending. He took our coats, but we told him we were disappointed as we left. Also, I mentioned that I was disappointed that after several attempts to make a reservation there were no call backs confirming it. He said no call back=confirmed. This doesn't make sense for someone who had never been to the restaurant. I have never heard of a restaurant not calling you to confirm your reservation. They just ask you to leave your reservation on a recording. Odd. Overall, this was very disappointing and expensive. We paid very much for very little. The experience overall was very frustrating and we will not go back. I will also tell my friends in South Bend to avoid this place. Lastly, it was supposed to be my birthday dinner. I told them in advance and there wasn't even a complimentary b-day dessert. This is not a fine dining establishment because it misses on so many marks of good customer service and doesn't have attention to detail on many levels of presentation, food courses and just general courtesy. Pros: Ambiance was nice. They took coats at the door.

First let me say that the reviews that are represented are from one year to 6 years old. I was there last Saturday with 5 other friends. We had a 7PM reservation and the dining room was not at all crowded. We were served drinks, soup and salad, and told that several entrees were unavailable. We weren't served our entrees until nearly 9PM. We were offered bread and butter several times, but no explanation for the delay. One shrimp dinner was under cooked. The six vegetables on my plate were undercooked (raw). When I say six vegetables, it was one brussell sprout cut in half, two slices of carrot and 4 small green beans that were uncooked. The dessert was not what was represented on the cart. There were several other minor errors. So in essence I paid over $70 for one cocktail ($15) and minestrone soup, and a chicken breast with raw vegetables. This restaurant needs to seriously reconsider it's reputation and its prices. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN, AND WOULD ADVISE ANYONE WHO ASKED TO NOT GO AS WELL!!!!

We absolutely love this place. Who would think that you can find literally a world class restaurant in Northern Indiana just outside South Bend. The setting is beautiful ..... out in the country with magnificent gardens and world class food and wine. We love the Carriage House and the people who own and work at this wonderful spot.
