This was a fun joint. Nothing that'll blow you away if you've been over hyped about it, but if you're looking for a nice restaurant in an entertaining location, with really good food, then you'll be very happy. You might have to get creative with nearby parking, and when busy, the seating structure (the bar, one long bench down the middle, and a handful of large 8 seaters) might force you to get to know another group, which is a good thing if you keep an open mind. :D Go and just have a good time!

Went to HD1 for lunch yesterday, and overall it was a good dining experience. I had their Red Haute (basically a chili dog), and had no complaints. Here's the thing though: it wasn't phenomenal. It's a good chili dog, but it's not worth the amount of time it takes to prepare (the place was slow when I was there), and it's not worth $5.50. It's not all-beef (that's $1 extra), and it's average-sized. Again, a solid dog, but not worth all that. And I'm not inclined to think the decor added real value. *Nutshell:* Food -- Good. Can't deny that. But not good enough for the cost. Decor -- Good. But who gives a hoot? Service -- Good. The staff was friendly, polite, helpful, but the food was quite slow coming out for a couple of hot dogs with toppings.

I'm surprised by the negative reviews. I love this place! I've been multiple times and have never had an issue. The service is always great and I love trying something new every time I go. The parking can be difficult. They have access to a lot about a block down, but late at night it can be a little sketchy. My girlfriend and I had an encounter with a shady guy in the parking lot and our wonderful waiter walked us all the way to our car a block down. My only complaint is the veggie chili has been a little bitter the 2 times I've tried it. Next time I'll steer clear. They can make any dog vegetarian/vegan which is fantastic.. most restaurants aren't that flexible. It's a unique experience. Go with an open mind and don't be so negative and you'll have a blasty blast.

Good "Haute Dog"...;-) I think the waffle fries were a little too crunchy, but the maple oy sauce on them made up for it. Definitely check this spot out if you're in the mood for a different dog.

Good food, pretty good service. We didn't have to wait long for a seat. Kind of loud inside, for those that avoid noisy places

I much prefer this place to his burger places. Despite the trendy vibe and the loud music it actually is more of a hot dog counter than his other places are burger stands. That is a good thing. I was a bit worried because his other places get glowing reviews despite being disappointing as hell. You'd think a celebrity chef could do a good burger but then get let down when you realize its really nothing more than a "concept" restaurant. HD1 is still big on the concept but this time delivers on the food. Its junk food, great junk food. Their "cheap chili dog chili" is actually a pretty high quality product and they slather it on the chili fries, which makes it great. Add to that they are waffle fries so each fry is capable of holding about a lb of this chili/"cheese whiz" combination. I was there for the corn dogs, I was craving corn dogs. The dogs themselves are well executed, no fluff. The only let down was the mustard, the brown mustard is WAY to sweet. Sub out that for the HD Mustard (which is your normal yellow stuff) and its far superior. If they were to convert the brown mustard to a spicy mustard I could say it would be the top 5 of corn dogs I have ever had. The girlfriend did a chili cheese dog, its the same combination from the fries and equally delivers. Drinks wise they have a nice selection of canned beers and an upper scale and diverse counter of booze. They also serve sugar sodas (along with the HFCS options). Desserts seem interesting, if not concise. They do two options for FroYo and a bread pudding. We have had a couple of the FroYo but its often sold out so plan accordingly. For the restaurant it has some positives outside of the loud music. Its dark but the lighting is well placed so you can actually see who you are talking too and its got large, family style tables that promote conversation. Supposedly they are remodeling the roof for outdoor seating, I am looking forward to that.

Passed this place a dozen times and decided to stop in. The staff were friendly and inviting. We ordered a few different entrees and an appetizer. The food was served fast and tasted great...very fresh. Our favorite though was the Waffle Fries. They are served with a light and somewhat spicy maple sauce...not too spicy though. Just good. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't yet. We are looking forward to our next visit!
