My family an I love the Schnitzelhaus and always eat there when we visit Heidelberg. We've made it a tradition to invite friends we haven't seen in a while to get reacquainted. The menu has something for almost everyone and it seems like a new experience every time we visit.

Nice restaurant in the old town of Heidelberg. The menu is great, awesome atmosphere, nice location. Some of the schnitzels are not as idiosincratic as the menu might make them sound, but I've tried over 10 of them (the menu contains 101) and I've been generally very well impressed. Good quality overall and not very touristy (one of the few such places in HD).Go for it!

We planned a day trip to Heidelberg with some friends and were looking for a good German restaurant somewhere in the downtown area. Through all the qype reviews I came across Alte Muenz - Heidelberger Schnitzelhaus. It's a little off the main shopping area (Hauptstrasse) and pretty easy to find. We enjoyed the place right off the bat; Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Once we got the menu, the difficult part started. How do you choose from 100 different Schnitzels?? That ALL sound delicious?! It's quite impossible, and after about 15 minutes and almost a whole Hefeweizen (Heidelberger brand, too!), we finally just picked one each. We got one cordon bleu type schnitzel filled with ham and cheese, one "Kopenhagen"-style which was topped with mushroom, gravy, bacon and smoked sausage, one french style schnitzel with a mustard sauce, onions, and gorgonzola cheese, and I myself got a "metzger"style schnitzel which was filled with delicious bratwurst. Needless to say, all four were extremely tasty and we all tried each other's and wished we could have had a platter each with all four of them. Our Schnitzels were served with a salad and fries which made for a more than filling meal (fries served family style). The prices were really reasonable (around 10 EUR, including salad and fries) and the fact that the menu also comes in English (just ask for it) made deciding a lot easier. Summary: Good service, clean bathrooms, quality food served hot, fair prices, no smoking, outdoor seating (when weather permits), nice atmosphere inside (cozy)... The only negative thing I can think of is that it is difficult to choose which Schnitzel to order! If you're into that kind of thing, you can even take home an t-shirt or mug. This place is worth every penny you spend there and all of us will dream about our Schnitzels for a long time.

Possibly all impossible variations of Schnitzel. Wine was good, fries too but the cheese-Spätzle tasted like nothing

What can I say beyond 101 choices of schnitzel? The place is not huge, but large enough that you can usually get a seat pretty quickly. They had a good selection of wine and several types of local Heidelberg brew on tap. Staff was very friendly, spoke great english and had no problem splitting our bill for us. They did have a few items on the menu other than schnitzel, but I didn't really look at these because what else could you possibly want? Most of the schnitzels are variations on the common breaded type with different sauces and come with fries, but some are "natural style" and not breaded and are more like big chops. There is also one that comes with kasespetzel, cheese noodles which are incredible. Melty cheese that stretches across the place. The fries that come with the other ones are also very good and are excellent for soaking up the left over gravy. Also came with a salad.
