It's carnival season in the New Orleans area, y'all! The next few weeks will be busy for me with Mardi Gras parades and formal balls. I'm looking forward to it. The Deuce loves this time of year because they get King Cake at school every Friday leading up to Mardi Gras.

Was visiting Orlando and read the great reviews, so decided to give it a try. Wouldn't ever go back! It was very hot inside, as if the ac wasn't working. We were sweating. Dirty and crowded. The floor was very sticky. I was wearing flip flops and was sticking to the floor. Husband ordered Coke and had to ask for a new cup, because there was grease floating on the top of his drink. We went during dinner, thinking food would be fresh. Food was dry, unappetizing. Are they wanting to be a Chinese buffet, also? They should stick to either Latin OR Chinese, because it didn't taste like either. Their imitation lo-mein was sweet, and tasted disgusting, lIke plum? Sushi was plain and tasteles, and falling apart. Pizza had a very weird cheese on it. Don't know how they have such good reviews, but I would not recommend.

My experience in the emergency room was horrible. My 3 month old was running a fever, and we were directed to the emergency room by her pediatrician. The pediatrician said she had a UTI, but they were unsuccessful in getting enough urine for a culture, and that the hospital would be able to get that done for me. We were directed to Mease Countryside, since it was the closest hospital to us. We walked in and let them know what the pediatrician told us. When the emergency room doctor walked in, he listed all the procedures they were going to do to our daughter and that she was going to be admitted. We told him we didn’t feel all the procedures were necessary. One of them, the lumbar puncture, was very invasive and they hadn’t even taken her urine or blood yet, but were jumping to conclusions right away. He told “You have no choice.” (My child and I don’t have a choice?!) We declined the lumbar puncture. He left angrily. He then came back again and again said we needed to get the lumbar puncture done. Again, we told him we wanted to wait for the blood work and urine results to come in, and we felt he was rushing. He tells us “If you don’t get the procedure done, your daughter will be dead tomorrow.” Again, we tell him we will wait for the results. He says she will not be accepted as an inpatient without the procedure and we had no choice, again. He leaves, even angrier. He comes back a third time and says everything came back negative and the only thing left to do was get the lumbar puncture done. He also tells us our child is severely dehydrated and “just because you think she’s suckling doesn’t mean that she’s getting enough to drink.” It was later on when we spoke with the hospitalist, that we found out that she was in fact not severely dehydrated. My husband calmly tried to voice his concern and ask some questions about the lumbar puncture, but the doctor kept interrupting him, raising his voice and even rolling his eyes. My husband is from a different country but has lived here since he was a child. The doctor kept repeating “This is how we do things here in the United States of America.” We asked for some time to think about it. The doctor says No, we cannot get any more time. He tells us he has already worked for 12 hours and it’s already past his shift and he has given us enough time. That he will not delegate the task to the next shift doctor. At this point, I was crying. I was NOT okay with getting the test done, especially since my child was acting and eating fine, other than the fever. With his choice of words and attitude, we felt like we either had choice A: decline the lumbar puncture and get turned in to child services for endangerment, or choice B: leave to get a second opinion and get turned into child services for endangerment. We went ahead and signed the consent, afraid of what he was going to do out of anger. He told us to leave the room. After hearing our daughter screaming for over 5 minutes, he opens the door, walks out and past us, not saying a SINGLE word to us. After we got admitted to the pediatric unit and saw the hospitalist over the weekend, we found out she did in fact have a UTI. How frustrating and heartbreaking it was to us that we had our daughter go through such a procedure when in fact it was a UTI, just like our pediatrician had told us. What a racist, rude man and bully this doctor was. I'm surprised he has kept his job for 20 years, like he kept mentioning to us. After such a nerve wracking experience, I would drive hundreds of miles just to avoid going through the Mease Countryside emergency room
