I blinked a few times and then laughed when I saw this tweet… (Stephen Harpers favourite banned artist and UVic Visual Arts MFA alum Franke James returns for Oct 9 event) UVic’s tweet about me being “Harper’s favourite ‘banned’ artist” is a funny twist on what actually happened to me when I poked, prodded and challenged our Dear

Please share and ask your friends to sign Teresa's Change.org petition. My sister, Teresa's story hit the front page of the GTA section in the print edition of the Toronto Star.

EXCERPT - “The fact is, Teresa’s human rights were taken away,” insists Bill. “We want to share her story because we want people to know the truth about how the system works.”

Bill and Franke are... angry at the social service agencies that assessed Teresa as showing signs of dementia, angry that she was placed in “a nursing home,” angry at Teresa’s family.

Now they want apologies on Teresa’s behalf — and last week they got one. Toronto Central CCAC CEO Stacey Daub posted one on a petition Teresa and Franke put online.

“My siblings were desperate, but they didn’t have to be because we had offered to take care of Teresa for the rest of her life,” says Franke..."
When Teresa Pocock’s father could no longer care for her, her family faced a crisis common to such families: a shortage of suitable group homes.

In Victoria? Join me for the exhibition opening of “The Real Poop on Social Change” at The Dock. Chat about social change art over a glass of wine or beer on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 4:30pm to 7:00pm.
It's a great line-up! I will be joined by Charlotte Kingston, BC Civil Liberties Association, Carol Linnitt, DeSmog Canada, and Dr. Thomas F. Pedersen, The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions in saying a few words about the power of art to accelerate positive change — and why we need to vigorously protect our Charter right to free expression.

Help keep the pressure on. Please take a minute to sign my sister, Teresa's petition demanding an apology. Within 2 days, one of the organizations stepped forward and said "sorry" but the other (a long-term care home) is silent. Do they want to sweep it under the rug? Watch Teresa stand up for her human rights and ask for an apology... https://vimeo.com/89661167
