A native of Sanlúcar de Guadiana (Huelva), in Spain, Fr Riudavets came to Peru as a young scholastic in the pre-priesthood preparation stage. He studied theology in Lima and had experience in teaching in Piura in the north. After his priestly ordination, he was sent in 1980 to the Jesuit mission in the Vicariate San Francisco Javier del Alto Maranon, an area that includes part of Jaén (in the region of Cajamarca) that is the land of the Awajun-Wampis people.

Fr Miranda, spokesperson for the Peruvian Jesuit province, said Fr Riudavets worked for almost 40 years among the indigenous people as a teacher and then principal and was very close to the people.

The body of Father Carlos Riudavets Montes has been found on Friday 3rd August: http://ow.ly/h8Xx30lnB92 #news #Jesuit #mission

When head and heart come together

With A-Level results day upon us, many young people will be making life-changing decisions. What does St Ignatius advise on how to go about this? http://ow.ly/GsCa30lrCvo #discernment #StIgnatius #meditation

"Stonyhurst is thriving: its roll has increased over the last five years and its prep school, Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, has grown by 25 per cent. My children will soon walk to school across an open field and country lane, rather than arriving at London preparatory schools after a 45-minute commute in an Uber. My wife, a NHS general practitioner, will swap a three-hour trip each day around the M25 for what the AA Route Planner tells us will be a 4.1 mile drive, duration 11 minutes, to her new country GP practice.

"For our great Catholic independent schools to thrive in the 21st century, a new approach to endowment, fundraising, international partnerships and external relations is required."

Stephen Withnell, new Director of Strategic Development at #Stonyhurst, has recently written a comment piece for The Catholic Herald on his appointment and on the future projects for the #school: http://ow.ly/t8jz30lqSNz #education

“This will take them out of homelessness for good. They will be tenants and the label of homelessness will be removed from them. I’m delighted that the Jesuit Community of Ireland see this as a very apt and fitting legacy for these properties” trust chief executive Pat Doyle said.

Three large Victorian buildings in Dublin’s north inner city, which have housed the Pioneer Association, the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice and the first premises of Peter McVerry Trust, are to be turned into homes for people leaving emergency accommodation. Read more: http://ow.ly/CV7T30lpZdG

"As the dance ended I wanted to kneel in adoration before this dancing-partner God. But instead God knelt before me, honouring me, marvelling at what he had made. There was no controlling, He was going to let me move on. I knew I was something of value that would grow as he looked on in wonder.

"We still dance from time to time. Sometimes together, sometimes he just watches. There is never an issue with my two left feet – it simply doesn’t matter. I have been known to tread quite heavily and deliberately on his toes when I’m angry. Even in times when I couldn’t bring myself to dance I have always known that this was my choice and my dancing partner was just waiting."

Ann Jepson reflects on how dancing with God became an integral part of her spiritual journey: http://ow.ly/UsCg30lqW3L #meditation #mindfulness #SpiritualExercises

Do you know why old paintings of Saint Thomas the Apostle sometimes show him carrying a belt?

According to pious legend the doubting of Thomas extended to the #Assumption of Our Lady. Read more in Peter Gallagher SJ's homily for the feast of Our Lady celebrated this week: http://ow.ly/4YA930lpL0i
