Does your dog have the personality to be cover photo calendar material? Let the public decide.

The North Central Texas Regional Stormwater Management Program is hosting a 2017 Doo the Right Thing Calendar Photo Contest. All you have to do is take the pledge to “doo the right thing” then submit a picture of your dog (the 2016 winner is pictured). The deadline is 11:59 p.m. on June 30.

The Doo the Right Thing pledge means that you commit to pick up your dog’s waste when you are walking, regularly pick up droppings in your yard, and properly dispose of the waste.

To be eligible for the full-page image for the month, photos must be at least 3000x2000 pixels and in landscape orientation. Photos of lesser quality or in portrait orientation may be considered as supplemental images for the calendar. You must be a resident of the 16-county North Central Texas Council of Governments region, which includes Tarrant and Johnson Counties, and Burleson, to participate.

Qualified submissions will be posted to the contest webpage by the end of July, then, in August, the public gets two weeks to cast a vote for the picture they think should be the cover photo. You can only vote once. More, http://bit.ly/DooRightThingcontest.

The Burleson Public Library launched the first of its Family Place Parent/Child workshops on May 3. The class is full, but you can sign up now for the September workshop.

Parent-Child Play and Learn is a 5-week workshop that provides an environment rich with toys, books, and art activities and an opportunity for families to spend time together, make friends, and talk one-on-one with resource professionals concerning various aspects of child development, parenting, and early literacy. Each workshop has different experts and different themes.

The Family Place Library supports the essential role of parents as first teachers and addresses the physical, social, emotional and cognitive aspects of child development to help build a foundation for learning during the critical first years of life. The core components of a Family Place Library are collections of books, toys, music and multimedia materials for babies, toddlers, parents and service providers; a specially designed, welcoming space within the children's area for families with young children; the Parent/Child Workshop; developmentally appropriate programming for very young children and their parents; and, Library staff trained in family support, child development, parent education and best practices. http://bit.ly/BPLFamilyplace
