“Should I be a zombie rapper or a vampire cheerleader?” Halloween costume decisions for my kids start even before the first day of school. No other holiday captures their imagination more, so we decide to take them to Kingston's infamous Fort Fright. Here, Hollywood-style props, special effects ...

Drinks on ice, definitely. But sleeping on ice? That's hard to fathom. Yet despite preconceptions, over 48,000 visitors have done just that at the Quebec City Ice Hotel. Travel Writer Kate Pocock was one of them. One of the most surprising highlights for her was the silence. Because the walls are ma...

“The original site of the Garden of Eden,” wrote Canadian artist J.E.H. MacDonald in a letter home about the wilderness we're now looking at through the train window. MacDonald was one of the Group of Seven, Canadian artists, whose bold, dramatic style defined this nation's art.

Torontonians refer to the Haliburton Highlands as ‘cottage country’. Nine-to-fivers leave work early on Fridays and flee 220 kilometres north of the city, where they find rolling hills, 600-plus lakes, and rugged forests. Paddling, hiking, fishing and drinks on the dock are all on the to-do list in ...

Introduction

After teaching English as a Second Language abroad for 7 years, I've now 'settled down' in Toronto. But my feet continue to itch and I now travel whenever I can with my family, writing about our adventures in numerous diverse publications, including Buffalo News, Latitudes, Virgin Atlantic Blog, Ontario Magazine,  Washington Times Communities, Montreal Families, Dreamscapes, VIA Destinations, Chill Magazine and Today's Parent.

Bragging rights
Since starting my second career in freelance writing five years ago, I've had 200+ stories published in over 25 publications (and many fabulous adventures along the way).
