A must-stop place on your way down the coast. A wonderful, lively atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food! Our best meal in the Bay Area. The portion sizes here are no joke, so you'll probably over order but then stuff yourself and be happy you did! The chowder was very good (not too thick, good amount of pepper, chunky seafood) and we also got the sampler appetizer (which was a great variety of fish and seafood). Lastly, we split a lobster roll, well because who can pass up one of the "Top 5 in America"? It also doesn't disappoint! It is packed FULL of lobster and is on a soft buttery roll. You can't go wrong! We also tried the Bloody Mary, and being from New Orleans, I know about Bloody Marys. It was also pretty good - they add a small "garden" as we call it. Definitely an experience and a good meal! Stop in!

My wife and me celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary in half moon bay we stayed on a lovely boat and walked to sams for dinner we started with a dozen oysters which tasted great we had just started the oysters when the clam chowder arrived much to quick we then started the soup and the main dish arrived before we even got the bibs, the main dish was one lobster one piece of corn cut in half about one dozen mussels and clams some coleslaw and potatoes all the food on the plate varied from luke warm to cold the server actually apologized when setting it on the table for the presentation the supposed hot butter was spilled it was the worst meal I have had for our anniversary in 26 years the meal and one bottle of wine cost $200 with tip extremely overpriced PS the water was running out of the lobster terrible any one that thinks this is a good restaurant must have grew up on cornflakes

We were excited to try the restaurant after glowing recommendations from friends. The clam chowder did not disappoint; it was excellent. However the lobster roll left much to be desired. There was plenty of lobster meat, however it was rather bland and lacked any seasoning, not even lemon. The deck view is beautiful, however there are no umbrellas and a sunny day is a problem. Considering the traffic on highway 92 (4 miles in 1 hour) it's unlikely that we'll return.

arrived 8-11-2014 was seated out side at our requested. Waitress took our drink order and then when she took our food order she became rude. She did not bring our food. When we needed something we had to ask the bus boy, he was very polite and he got the tip. When we were ready to leave the waitress tried to get us to buy dessert all we wanted was to leave, the calm chowder is NOT as good as it is in Monterey. We only wanted the check, after giving her the money and then seeing she short changed us and then asking her for the correct change she replied they ALWAYS ROUND UP, really they round up??!! so we demanded the correct change and advised they not short change people as it is against the law to steal. So IF you go here count your change

Okay chowder, lobster roll was served to us in a toasted bun that had sat for awhile. Very loud inside. Fun outside area to sit. Runners bring out food so don't wait for your waitress ask the other staff members.

+ The view is the only reason to come here, - touristy, - awful service, - overpriced I wished I had gone elsewhere as I usually do when I am in Half Moon Bay. The view from the patio is beautiful but this is the only reason to come here. Guests have the choice between sun chairs, an elevated bar, and tables. We waited 30 minutes for the waitress who actually sent us to the bar to get drinks since we didn’t want to order lunch… I had the impression that she only showed up because I picked up the overpriced menus myself. The bartenders weren’t much friendlier either and we decided to leave after finishing our café latte that was served with sugar but without a spoon! Besides, the place was packed with tourists. This said: try out other restaurants and bars around. And stay away from Sam’s Chowderhouse. Instead I recommend Back Dancing on Mirada Road, HMB Brewing Co. and Barbara’s Fish Trap on Capistrano Road or Moss Beach Distillery on Beach Way/Moss Beach.

Great happy person serving us very kind and wanted to talk to us about are day. The first thing we ordered was popcorn shrimp and it was very good, with this we had old fashioned fries. To me they were grows and spicy to much seasoning for me but my friend liked it so probably not every one will agree with my opinion. Next my food. It got of to a bad start because they did not have Dr pepper so I had lemonade it was really watery but I drank it all so I can't complain, but my clam chowder was very fresh you defiantly could tell and it was very delightful but I thought it to be very thin for my liking I would have liked it to be thicker but again that is just my opinion. Lastly I got an eight dollar dessert that was a little short of the size of a base ball if a base ball was a square but any ways this dessert was supposed feed three people and it most definite was way to small but the food itself was amazing the chocolate cake perfect the filling nice and warm and the vanilla ice cream was great, but i do wish it would have been bigger. In the restaurants defense it was very late and I was starving and had a long drive back to Roseville so I was looking for a great restraint but, every thing was on the menu so it probably stated that the dessert was for one person, and the drys were spicy. Now I don't know that for sure so i can't promise that but i can say that it was an ok restaurant i don't think it was worth going 22 miles out of are way home but what ever,
