Disappointing #childprotection news from #Pakistan: Marvi Menon's attempt to ban child marriage fails for being seen as anti-Islamic by powerful legal body.
A move to ban child marriages in Pakistan has been withdrawn after meeting staunch resistance from a religious body, which branded the bill as “anti-Islamic”. The ruling party politician who introduced the bill, Marvi Menon of the Pakistan Muslim League party, withdrew it after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) dubbed the bill “blasphemous”.

Did the #DaytonAgreement produce genuine conflict resolution in #Bosnia or did it simply solidify the gains of war?
A conference taking place next Friday in Maynooth University explores this question. Contributors include academics, journalists and practitioners. Registration is free & open to all.
The Centre for European and Eurasian Studies will host a conference on 18 December 2015 which will analyze and interrogate the significance of the Dayton Agreement which ended the war in Bosnia in December 1995. The event coincides almost to the day with the twentieth anniversary of the historic agreement and  will examine the contested legacies of Dayton and how it impacted on Bosnia and the Western Balkans region.

To All Kimmage Alumni: For Your Attention & Your Diary!
On Saturday, November 8th, 2014. 3pm – 8pm, we are hosting an Alumni Gathering @ Kimmage which is part of our celebration of 40 Years of Development Studies.

While this is an event that brings together Irish-based alumni, we are striving to ensure that as many of the ‘Kimmage Diaspora’ – all of you spread around the world – can also be part of the event in some way. Some of you have already contributed to a request we made for ‘Stories’ and some of these will be presented and discussed at the event – and all will be available to via the website [watch out for further news on this]. For others, to demonstrate the great ‘family solidarity’ within graduates of Kimmage (and we include TCDC in this!) – would you care to send a short video clip / greetings message or a longer email with with attached photos if you wish to paddy.reilly(at)kimmagedsc.ie.
