For some reason this seems to be a nice environment for a new Underworld movie.

Silence Is Golden

If I am silent then I am not real
But if I speak up then no one will hear
If I wear a mask there’s somewhere to hide

Silence is golden
I have been broken
Safe in my own skin
So nobody wins

If I raise my voice will someone get hurt
And if I can’t feel then I won’t get touched
If no truths are spoken then no lies can hide

Silence is golden
Nobody gets in
Safe in my own skin
So nobody wins

Did you hear me speak
Do you understand
Did you hear my voice
Will you hold my hand
Do you understand me

Won’t someone listen
Nobody gets in
My body’s a temple
But nothing is simple
Silence is golden
I have been broken
Something was stolen
Safe in my own skin

––Garbage

Reservoir. (Barcarena, Portugal)

The reservoir of the Gunpowder Factory (shown as a wide angle pano on a photo of mine posted a few days ago) is where the water from the nearby stream was diverted and stored as to power the mills that grinded the powder components.

This hydraulic system was the first of the factory's "power centrals" (later on adding a steam one, then two diesel ones as technology evolved). Today, the area is maintained with a little garden by its side.

At night the architecture colours get a great pop from the way it is lit up (from a low angle), and the place gets a whole different mood from that of daytime.

We've made a joint photograph of the factory area that is shown in the photo exhibition. My "side" of it is an image similar to this one, but with a different orientation (and thus composition) and slightly earlier in the day. I made a golden-to-blue hour photograph, whereas this one is the last of that shooting session, and is a deep blue hour one.

The image
I did not use a lens hood, so you can see on the right a bit of light spill from the spotlights that illuminate the area. I did not want to crop the image, so I left that on for added effect.

I was a bit weary regarding blade diffraction from the small aperture used (which I wanted for large depth of field, as I am literally glued to the plants in the foreground). I don't think I had a major issue there.

The reservoir is often photographed, but seldom in these light conditions. I was also lucky to get a slight break in the wind (which was harming the capture of the water in total stillness). In this take I got the water mood that I like: not a total mirror, but almost looking like ice.

I amped the exposure slightly in the left & center windows area, for effect and eye guidance. But not that much, as the spotlights do face that area, so it is naturally more lit than i.e. the right side of that building.
