What inspires writers to write?
I've added a photo of "the boreen" from a small village just outside Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. It was where my husband and I relocated to 16 years ago. Being an ex teacher I felt I knew what children would be interested in reading. But the west of Ireland was the place that captured  and fired up my imagination. It has now become the setting for all my stories. So I guess you could argue that inspiration found me. I'd be interested in hearing from you guys though.

This is a visually stunning fully illustrated book for 4 - 8 year olds, and is the first in a series.

Discussion  -

Just joined. I am a self published author of children's stories aimed at 4 - 8 year olds. My first in the series "I've Seen Granddad" is going fairly well, but I am finding it difficult to get a literary agent/publisher to take me on even though they like the book. I am enjoying the learning experience regarding the business side of things, but realise that the indie publishers might be my best options. Any ideas/suggestions.

The traditional publishing route is for authors who don't mind sacrificing income in return for a mildly hands-off approach (and for the ego stroke, which is perfectly understandable). You need to look at yourself, and your goals, and think about whether traditional publishing is the best option for you. If it is, that's cool, you'll probably find that the community at AbsoluteWrite would be better suited to helping you out though- that's their domain.

IF, however, you are not afraid to put your entrepreneur hat on, there's a lot of good options in self-publishing.
Do you have any books already published? What's your experience with the online world of blogging, marketing, social media, etc? How much money and time are you able/willing to invest in your book's success (think hard on this one)?

If you were looking for my children's story books in Amazon, what key word would you enter in the search box?

Formatting Your eBook  -

Just joined this circle. My first book has taken a year to get onto Amazon as an eBook. It was a fixed format and although my design expert had it formatted 10 months ago Amazon's system was not able to accept it. We've paid a company in England to effect the near impossible. I was not going to give up especially as my stories are based in Ireland. Have added a photo so that you can understand why.

Hi Guys
Have just joined and am looking forward to discussions. Like a couple of commentators I too am finding a difficulty in converting my fully illustrated children's story book to Kindle fire.

Thanks so much for your message and offer. Amazon have not been the best of companies to deal with. They seem to keep referring to the website information.. which is not helpful at all. I have a graphics expert trying on my behalf.. but they won't communicate with her either. Will still keep on. There has to be a solution!!!

Hi Denise,
Am in the process of placing my stories on kindle. Am using a graphics design co. to help with the re- formatting of the books. They are fully illustrated and they need to be re designed from the original format to comply with the Amazon setup. As far as I know, Amazon only allow testimonials from those who have purchased from their site. Good Luck with your venture.
Kind Regards

If you've launched an eBook or in the process of doing so, how many testimonials did/would you have for your blog or sales page? I'm getting a handful of people I know to have them ready for me by this weekend and hope to have 3 for my launch date.

Is there a specific number one should have to help with social proof?

Story
Introduction
I am a retired primary school teacher. Having fulfilled my ambitions in education I now realize that my passion has always been creative writing and storytelling. In many respects my path as a teacher has been a thorough preparation for this new career and I thank all the children and parents I have encountered along the way. However, it is my husband Tony who has become my mentor and driving force. He has such confidence in my ability.
